COMMUNITY GAME GRADES PROJECT: Submit your grades

Unfortunately my automated box score fetcher failed... so I'll have to spend some time troubleshooting it before Friday's game.

Yeah spurraider is on the money. Just don't assign a grade. If I do something like Incomplete, I will have to build in some logic to treat it as though it doesn't exist, and I'd rather not bother :st-lol:
I'm going to grade the deep bench DNPs on who is front and center to give high 5s on time outs

Alright... data looks to all be flowing nicely now. Updating the first post of this thread to include the embedded dashboard.

When the regular season starts, I will change the default view to exclude the pre-season.

Second Update: Also added a column for # of Community Grades submitted. Just thought that was kind of cool, especially with the interactivity. If you click on Wemby, for example, as of right now there have been 54 grades submitted. But then if you click on one of the specific games in the chart (IND for example), you can see that 25 grades were submitted for that game. Pretty good considering that was the first game the grading form was available right when the game ended!

This scott guy is a hater giving Kornet a 3.7 on average compared to the community average (4.58). Fuck that guy :st-lol:

Champagnie with just 4.09?
What are people expecting from him? It doesn't get any better for his 4th/5th option shooter role.
Grades are within player roles, can't compare role players with Wemby.

I think he’s been pretty invisible defensively. No glaring mental errors but nothing notable

also, im somewhat grading the players like this

1 - having this player on the floor was actively hurting our team, to the point it feels like sabotage. i gave this to harrison barnes against the pacers.
2 - player wasnt meeting his mark. wasnt doing anything egregiously bad, just wasnt getting it done. i gave this to vassell last game.
3 - kinda did the bare minimum for it to be an acceptable game for the player
4 - went above the acceptable standard (ive been giving this to champagnie)
5 - i really cant ask for more from the player. impacted both ends of the floor better than we should expect in a typical game. i probably gave this to kornet at least once. if wemby had only 2-3 turnovers against indy, i'd have given him a 5

Just on Champ, I agree his shooting has obviously been excellent in the preseason but his defense has been underwhelming

Thanks for your energy and work!

:ROFLMAO:

tbh, my grades for Loong-Lions and MIA weren't real. I just randomly assigned some to feed some data into the system. Korndog definitely higher in reality!

Been pretty encouraged by the preseason.

Kornet looks great and finally fills the backup big position with the added bonus of being able to play next to Wemby.

Castle and Harper both starting out strong with Harper showing why he was the undisputed number 2 pick after Flagg. If Castle can bump up his efficiency especially at the 3 pt line, he could easily play next to either Fox or Harper. Hope his defense remains high level.

Champagnie started last preseason hot as well IIRC so let's see how he performs in the regular season.

Barnes looks terrible preseason but vets usually don't try as hard. Hopefully he retains his elite 3 pt shooting because the Spurs will need it.

Carter Bryant flashed a lot of potential and shooting looks better vs summer league.

Hoping Waters can become another Champaignie.

The Spurs really only need legit 3 pt shooting with neutral or better defense to round out a tough playoff team. Theoretically this could be filled by Vassell. Champagnie is already a budget version of that but Vassell could become an elite version of it. With 3 primary playmakers in Fox/Harper/Wemby and a secondary in Castle, Vassell has a niche role to fill and could carve out a long term future with the team. He just needs to focus and play within that role.

Through 5 preseason games last year:

Harrison Barnes:

7.6ppg on 11-30 from the field (36.7%), 6-18 from 3 (33.3%)

Julian Champagnie:

12.4ppg on 20-47 from the field (42.5%), 16-38 from 3 (42.1%)

and then come regular season, both play 82 games, Barnes had 51/43 shooting splits while Julian was at 41.5/37

This was posted in another thread, but the next step in this evolution is I'm going to have a post-game grades post (the day after games). These aren't intended to be like timvp's old grades, but just a quick summary of my thoughts, the average of community grades submitted thus far and probably a selected submitter's grades that I found interesting and they can then chime in with their thoughts. I'll add a little check box saying that you consent to me highlighting your grades or some shit. I'll also include a field for adding comments that I can use in my post. An example would be like this:

Scott's GradeCommunity AverageNotoriousHOP's Grade
Mitch Johnson44.22
Victor Wembanyama54.95
Jeremy Sochan11.31
Devin Vassell11.82

Summary:

The Spurs pulled this one out despite absolute stinkers from Jeremy and Sochan. I give Mitch a lot of credit for pulling them in the second half. Just another typical off-again night from Devin as he couldn't hit the backside of a barn, and he just looked lost on defense. Jeremy... just looked lost overall. I think spurraider21 summed it up best: "Jeremy looks like his wrist is still sprained, along with his brain. At least I hope that's the problem"

Of course I'm burying the lede here as Victor's quintuple-double pulled us back in the fourth quarter. Truly a game for the ages, we're all lucky we saw it.

I noticed that NotoriousHOP was less impressed with Mitch's performance in this one, so I highlighted his grades and would love to hear about what he saw.

What did you think? The Spurs have a tough stretch ahead, we're going to need something out of Jeremy and Devin if we're going to come out of this mini-road trip on the positive side of the ledger.

Barnes is a vet, he's just coasting through preseason. No reason for him to go all out in games that don't matter.

I'll be cross posting this to a few threads, but the new form includes a place to add comments. Please test this out with tonight's game, as tomorrow I will post a Game Grades "article" (it will just be a post) with a format I'm exploring!

I wouldn’t count on a repeat. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Barnes best 3 point shooting season coincided with CP3 playing his one season here. There’s also this thing called regression to the mean.

Preseason is going through the motions time for veteran teams that contended the previous season.

That said, the Spurs have better pieces than at any time since 2016. They also start off with a pretty soft schedule so they need to rack up wins early. Really need to see a 3-1 type of start.

I have that 3-1 start pencilled in ... but only 6-4 after ten despite not facing that much of competition

LeBron will probably miss the Spurs game. He’s on the shelf with sciatica. What an ignominious way to miss time, with an old person’s malady. All that HGH he’s been scarfing over the years won’t do anything for that.

Don't really care much about Lebron. Luka always cooks the Spurs and unless proven otherwise I do not expect the Spurs to beat the Lakers on the road.

Hopefully very quickly it will be apparent we can't judge this team on the standard of performances of previous recent Spurs teams.

The team around Luka in LA, minus LeBron of course, isn’t even as good as his pre Finals Dallas teams. I also don’t care if he cooks us scoring, as long as we shut the door on anyone else.
