The BaselineBums Community Game Grades Project

tbh, i think it's a solid idea. kudos to scott, our resident savant.

Waiting for someone to come in here and give Keldon an F grade while simultaneously suggesting he had a decent game so we can probably trade him for Giannis.

  1. @Sugus these next few notes are for you - weird about the Spanish on that one particular drop down! I'll play around and see if I can figure that out (because it's not something I set up)
  2. "Opp Abbr" is Opponent Abbreviation, it allows you to filter by the opposing team. I'll see if I can rename that button, because it's not clear (that's just the name of the column header in my database that translates the opponent from the data feed).
  3. Yep, I plan on the intake being a Google Form. I'm playing around with a way to build it out and then embed it into the top of post of the Game Thread, so that everyone knows where to find it, but I've got that part pretty much figured out with a seamless feed from the Google Form into my database. Honestly I've got all the data streams already wired up (including box score stats and game results), it's just a matter of the games going live and turning them all on. I had ChatGPT generate 60 games worth of dummy data so I could build this out, but as soon as the regular season starts this will be easy to turn on. I'll probably look to start testing the Google Form in the next couple of pre-season games to make sure it is working properly.
What does everyone think about the idea of the Google form collecting usernames? I don't want to start using this to bully people, but it would be fun (for example) to do something like "Hey [whatever user here]... you say you've always believed in Sochan, but your grade history shows otherwise!". I could build a filter so that you could add any user's grades onto the chart... but I'm also not sure I want to mess too much with it at this point since I've got it in a really nice stable state :st-lol:
Really appreciate the explanations! Yeah the dropdown language change was strange - but I'm happy to report that your embedded posted version (amazing!!) doesn't feature the bug; likely because XenForo auto-translates everything during the integration. I don't plan to go into the Onlooker page directly, so don't waste your time there, embedding works perfectly!

I'm honestly pro-username integrations into the Forms if possible, for the sole reason that it'd be fun to track/isolate single members' ratings through a season, incomplete as they may be (obviously few of us will be able to grade all 82 games seriously). I know Forms has an option to attach the email address of the Google account into the Forms, but that's obviously vulnerable/private - but I'm wary of simply making a free text box for usernames, since it can lead to errors ( Sugus =/= sugus =/= suguss and so on, humans are fallible).

I'm not knowledgeable enough on Forms to think of alternatives, hopefully something can be figured out? A dropdown selection of usernames isn't good either, as it'd be too easy to impersonate another user....... It's not so simple once you start to think on it.

Let us know if further testing or brainstorming is needed!

I'm gonna try to have the first trial form up for tomorrow's game against Utah (which I won't be able to watch live unfortunately).

Good feedback all around as I wire it up tonight.

this is awesome, love how you can click on an individual game and see the counting stats for the player. Maybe add turnovers as well?

One thing I forgot to mention about the grades feedback is that everyone who votes needs to be aware that players are graded within their role.
For example Wemby's C performance has more impact on winning than Keldon's A, but we're grading them within the context of their own ability.

yeah i've always assumed roles/expectations were always factored in when coming up with grades. or else we'd just look at some raw stat like Game Score and assign grades for everybody that way lol.

if Waters comes off the bench for 8 minutes, hits two 3's, and doesnt have any turnovers or dumb fouls on defense, he'd probably get an A-, for instance

Can we put that the articles are written by Timvpgpt? Not going so far as to use his actual name like st

What if i watched all the highlights and saw the box score and read through the whole BB game thread
I'm not the boss of you!
I don't think highlights and a box score are enough to really see what individual players are bringing but I'm not about to police how people do it
I think asking for people to watch more games than not is preferred
