So what is the scenario with Trae? If he doesn't get the extension he wants, will Atlanta be forced to trade him? When does his rookie contract end?
He’s not on a rookie contract, he’s on his second, looking for a big third contract, He is unrestricted, and there are teams with cap room next summer. For us, the best case is that he walks, and they get nothing.

Can someone break this down how the swap conveys. Is it not just a clean swap? how does utah play into this?

1-ATL swap posibilitySAS will receive the more favorable of its 2026 1st round pick and ATL's 2026 1st round pick; UTA will receive the most favorable of its 2026 1st round pick protected for selections 9-30, MIN's 2026 1st round pick and CLE's 2026 1st round pick; MIN will receive the less favorable of its pick and the UTA pick if conveyabl

I don't know why is that other stuff included, for us it's a normal swap.

he's already on his second contract, and has a 49mil player option next season
Thanks for checking me. No idea wtf I was thinking that he's still on a rookie deal. I guess not watching much basketball between 2019 and 2022 made me forget who came in when.

Who are projected to be the top 3-4 picks in next year's draft? Boozer, Peterson, Dybansta? Am I missing anyone?

Hawks dropped to 1-3 with their loss to the Bulls last night, 128-123. They probably should be 0-4. No telling how the lack of a contract will effect Trae this year.

For us, it’s just a clean swap or not swap. Other shit can happen afterwards which is of no interest to me. I think ATL had the option to swap with Cleveland, whether we swap or not, which is tied to a previous Cleveland Utah swap in the Spider Mitchell trade.

Trae came in the same year as Luka, and it was a pretty noteworthy draft day deal. hawks took Luka at 3 and traded him to Dallas in exchange for Trae (5th pick) and a future protected pick

those are the big names im familiar with. i usually dont follow college ball other than when we begin getting closer to NBA draft relevance

Yep. Complete screwup on my part as I didn't watch much NBA when they first came in. I remember it now after you've said it.

Any idea if anyone from those three is a clear cut number 1, or is it too early to say?

He's young and should turn it around. But that Dyson Daniels extension not looking good so far tbh.
Some guys are just Bonzi Wells. You can literally look at their career stats page, and tell when they were showing out for the season before they were due for a contract.

AJ Dybantsa, Cam Boozer, and Darryn Peterson have been getting most of the media buzz, and rightfully so, but look out for Caleb Wilson out of UNC. The Freshman out of Atlanta, GA looks good so far this season. He's a 6'10 PF who is a versatile defensive monster, but also has a nice offensive game and jumper that extends out to the 3-point line. Would be a nice front-court pairing partner with Wemby. I guarantee he'll be all over the Spurs radar if he isn't already tbh.

Don't know why so many of you are bullish on the swap conveying. You can be pretty down on the hawks and envision them with a better record that us because of the disparity between the East and West conferences. The east is truly terrible.

the hawks had a higher over/under on win total. i had been pretty bearish on the swap. but easy for opinions to sway after respective 4-0 and 1-3 starts. if the nets beat the hawks today we are officially on swap watch tbh

Wasn't sure where else to put this but our old friend Alex Sarr is having a fine second season in DC so far. He's averaging 19/9/4/2 on 55% shooting.

Those are the big 3. projected #4 is the tennessee kid

They got extremely lucky last year in a lot of respects, outperforming their expected wins by like 4. Ad to that the fact that Trae has effectively checked out because he didn’t get his Max extension, and you’re damn right I’m bullish on this swap,

It's looking better than many thought with CHA and WIZ not looking absolutely horrific. Maybe that will change but for right now there's reason to hope.

I think it's probably less likely to convey. But a chance.
Atlanta has some talent a good coach and the east is weak. However, a lot can happen.
However the 2027 pick might be interesting.

I think in all likelihood Trae is gone. Atlanta is realizing a team led by him is only going so far

But where to?
Going to another bad team would be a lateral move and competent ones won't waste cap space on giving him a supermax.

New Orleans? Sacramento?
It's a good point. His market is pro

He just limped off the court with after teammate landing on his ankle

i know people bag on Trae a lot, and much of it is justified, but he is no doubt a big time floor raiser.
