Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

You can’t pickup Zion on the perimeter. Give him TEN FEET of cushion, and dare him to shoot middies, or put the ball on the floor, and come to you.
Have no idea how this was so hard to understand…

He’s ‘07 LeBron in the Finals, without the passing, perpetually.

The consistent failure to space him was a major head scratcher.

Lack of proper game plan (coaching problem?) or Victor going rogue (mental focus problem?)

Zion actually didn’t know what to do when we put Keldon on him the second half, and had Wemby lurking and hunting blocks.

Didn't Lebron expose Zion with that cushion defense a couple years ago in an NBA Cup game? Does Wemby not watch basketball or something? Zion has an elite 1st step and amazing touch around the basket and not much else and yet Wemby guarded him like he shoots 3s. A generational defensive player literally just handed Zion free layups.

Wemby wanted to beat Zion at his own game and lost the matchup.
He was too prideful to sag off, he wanted Zion to challenge him.

Actually thought that Zion looked as good as I've seen him in a long time. What a waste his career has been, he's so good when he's locked in.

After what happened to Zion, Silver decided to take no chances and gave us Wemby.
Imagine his shot selection on a team with Lamelo. :st-lol:

I saw a trade proposal yesterday that had Lamelo coming to SA... that concept frightened me enough (and not in a good way)

same with Embiid, I saw Knicks Phily yesterday and damn this dude is a monster when healthy which rarely happens

Difference being Embiid tried to stay healthy, Zion never bothered.

not sure Embiid really bothered tbh he really needed to lose weight tbh to preserve his body and it does not seem he put his spirit to it

Embiid is just too big of a human to stay healthy.
And at some point getting too skinny with his build becomes unnatural. Playing underweight affects your energy, strength and you just feel bad.
I'd say his issue was using too much force on every play, he fucked his knees up by dunking too much.

I don't know... Giannis is also a freak but he is being more durable, he seems to be more fit. The dunking thing is also true knowing that Embiid has a great touch at the rim.

Maybe better to be a bit underweighted and playing at 90% of what you are capable than playing 30 games a year.

From what I read and seen Embiid does not seem to be the sharpest knife of the drawer tbh

It's just genetics, can't do much about it. You can train and build your body all you want, but the ceiling is determined by your natural durability.
Joints, ligaments, flexibility and whatnot.

Why is Wemby not recognized as the NBA leader in blocks per game? He's also 3rd in rebounds per game. Has he still not met the requirements to qualify among the league leaders? He's played in 70% of the Spurs' games so far.

True but Embiid conditionning and weight management have been questioned in the past (Morris, Barkley have been vocal about it). If you take Victor for instance, one cannot question this aspect.. he is a diet freak, goes to bed early and works on flexibility with intense yoga and stretching. He is following on that the path of the great Kareem who had an exceptional longivity. Obviously those two aren't comparable in terms of frame and weight but Victor is setting example in terms of work ethics. Embiid was at 250 lb when drafted, he is now at 280 lb allegedly, 250 lb which is the weight of Giannis today for reference for roughly same height. There was report that during 24 season Embiid went on a program to lose weight something like 25-30 lb meaning he was flirting with the 300 lb at one point in his career.

At the end Embiid has probably some unfavourable genetics in terms of durability but there is no denying that he could have managed it much better than he did. It's a pity because this dude is a monster, he had stretch in the past where he was looking like Chamberlain.

I wonder if you put this wemby on ‘07 cavs the cavs still make the finals. I think yes since that eastern conference was probably the worst of the last 30 years

He is at 2,7 bpg, second is sarr at 2,1. Some sites don't have him in their leader stats indeed, maybe because of projection elegibility.. (70% of 82 = 57 below the 65) which is quite weird

All,

I am posting this proactively because it is bound to get posted eventually. We do not need a separate topic on this, and we also don't need everyone's thoughts on this. We are going to stick with our "No political discussion" community guidelines here. Below is something Vic said, so it should be posted in the Vic thread. If you want to debate the subject matter or whether you agree or disagree with Victor, there are other places to do that (or you can even start a DM to talk with whoever you want to about it).

So basically: we will allow people to post political statements made by Spurs players and staff (no matter the political leanings of those statements). We will not have discussions on those statements. Is this censorship? Yeah, it is... but we're not the government, and we're allowed to censor anything we want on this private website.

I realize this is not a perfect solution and some people may even find it hypocritical, but this is the best solution I could come up with. I do not want this forum to devolve into what ST eventually became, and opening up to political discourse is a slippery slope.

Thanks for understanding.
