Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Has Durant reached the stage that he doesn't mind giving opponents strategy help?

Kevin Durant nailed it. How does Victor not understand he's way more lethal going inside. I guess because of his size, he can't do it consistently. I don't see why he can't pump-fake and try and get to the rim on some of those fadeaways he ends up taking.
It's not that he doesn't understand it, it is that he plays without a pf so to get positioning he needs to be very agressive which is bad for his longevity

Even Alex Caruso also commented on Wemby after that last loss to OKC.

Caruso mentioned something along the line that Wemby is still not strong...not even KD. He need to get strong, especially his lower body

I do agree that Wemby does tend to settle and that's exactly what the defense wants him to do. Don't let the opposing defense dictate your play Wemby.

all good ice, no need to apologize.
Thanks. You're one of my favourite posters, so I didn't mean to come off so poorly. I agree 100% with what you said your second post.

Maybe saying "not understand" was too harsh. I just think he's still too weak physically to do it, and he's shying away from it. You're probably right about it also not being good for his longevity.

I have noticed flashes of improved footwork from Victor. That game against Memphis a couple weeks ago when Wemby was 2/4 in getting into the paint for easy looks against Aldama. He also had a nice up and under and a drop step/spin (unfortunately he missed the dunk) against Beringer the other night. Even last night he drove right for an impressive extended-arm dunk when he had the angle. I think it'll take another couple offseasons of intensive training for him to realize what Durant is hinting at.

He struggles to get into the paint because:

1) obviously too slight in his lower body and too easy to push out of his spot. His build is still a real issue that isn’t progressing very well so far. I think it’s possible he never overcomes this because his DNA is going to keep him lean no matter what he does.

2) when he’s pressed, he’ll often make a quick move to free himself up and get a quick break from the pressure. But the team still isn’t looking for those moments, and miss them constantly. You only get a split second to get it to him. They are missing the window. This feels like coaching could address it. We don’t seem to have set plays or set actions to get him the ball. He just goes in…mushes his way around…and when he finally sees daylight you have castle whipping the ball to Barnes in the corner instead.

This has to get figured out, in all honesty. It’s not in an acceptable state at the moment, despite his success and the teams.

hrr drr Wemby should dunk the ball every time hrr drr.

Its so fucking hard to take some of you seriously that you think a professional athlete who was just named an AS starter in his 3rd season at an incredibly young age surrounded by a staff of professionals and some NBA vets doesn't know that he should go inside to score.

Wemby and the team are obviously trying to balance his skill set, with his physique, with the wear and tear that comes from putting on more weight, and trying to find a way of playing that works for Wemby in the long term.

In the past month, Wemby has gotten dramatically better at his turnover rate. Have you guys noticed that he's finally learning to not put the ball on the floor near smalls driving to the basket and how much thats reduced his turnovers? Have you noticed how much better he's shooting for 3 - especially if you give him some fucking grace on the 2nd night of a back to back where it was clear he had no legs in the 2nd half? For the record, his splits also show he shoots dramatically worse on the 2nd night of a B2B but last night probably is a big chunk of that. Anyway, His ORTG this year is 15 points higher than his rookie, but some of you are wondering if he's improved on offense? He's averaging 24 points per game in 29 MINUTES! 29!!!!!!!!

This is all I can think of when someone asks if Wemby has improved on offense:

Honestly that video applies to Durant too. In his 3rd year, Durant shot 36.5% from 3. Even after the shit from last night, Wemby is 38%. But yeah, he can't shoot or some shit. Durant is a hell of a scorer but the take that Wemby can't shoot is a take as bad as the ashy ass skin on Durants legs.

Man(ny), fucking thank you :st-lol: sometimes you read so many tragic takes that you really start to lose perspective. Folks already used to what Wemby can do, now it's onto the eternal "what have you done for me lately" cycle of tearing down players.

Also great that you caught Durant's hypocrisy -- his comments are very funny when he's spent his career choosing to stick with jumpshots as a 7 footer, oftentimes to the detriment of his team, and only has rings to show for it because of Curry. He sure wasn't taking it to the rim every time on those Thunder teams that he left WB hanging on... :st-rolleyes:

People also aren't noticing that these Wemby critique soundbites are exclusively coming after losses, and are likely media-baited (well not KD's, he likes to talk ball, but anyways). There sure wasn't a peep said about Wemby's shooting when he hit those 7 three's the other night or whatever, lol, but shoot bad on a B2B, and you're suddenly terrible and told to not go for jumpshots.

Basically same people who cannot understand difference between weather and climate

On the other news.. Victor numer 4 on player jersey sales behind curry, luka and jalen.. and Spurs number 4 also behind lakers, knicks and GSW.. pretty cool for a small market

I used to love back in the day when a celeb or musician rocking a Spurs jersey was one of those low key "they know ball" kind of things. I'm thinking Rhianna/Danny Carey kind of vibes. I'm not one who gives two shits about celebs, but have always found someone in a Spurs jersey one of those "okay I see you" kind of things.

A "recent" famous one was Selena Gomez iirc

One of my favorite gifs to use on game days in group chats with friends.

She's a legit Spurs fan though, born in the Dallas area but with family from Monterrey, which is very much a sister city to San Antonio. I believe she has stated in interviews her family used to take road trips from Dallas to San Antonio to watch Spurs games and she's been a fan since she was 5.

He's also #4 on the latest KIA MVP Ladder.
