Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Wemby is averaging 28.7 MPG, less than his rookie season. Good luck bumping that to 35 MPG come playoffs time and not have him huff and wheeze for a breath late in games.

Pretty safe to say all that work done on stamina and conditioning the past summer has been extensively rolled back. He hasn't logged 30 minutes of intensive basketball for two full months now. Not even post-Achilles dudes would be subjected to this insanity.
Blame spurs organization tbh

The league really wants wemby to win MVP or atleast he’s belong in the conversation. 24pts/11reb/2.9blk is not an MVP level stats in today’s league. But somehow he climed from 5th spot to 4th. Lmao.

Timmy won MVP in '03 averaging 23/13/3. His defensive impact and the success of the team were the primary contributing factors. If we end up winning 52+ games with Wemby averaging 24/11/3 as the unanimous DPOY, I don't see why he shouldn't easily be 1st team All-NBA (i.e. top 5 in the NBA).

In 2002-2003 season the scoring average was 95.1 ppg. While this season the teams overall scoring average is 116.1ppg. Thats a big difference interms of scoring. And in todays league there are more players averaging 25ppg and up comapred in 2002-2003 season. It means wemby’s 24/11/3 is very low in todays league average.

In 02-03 season Timmy’s 23ppg ranked 7th in scoring. Wemby’s 23.9ppg ranks 19th this season.

I didn't watch much of the footage of the U19 FIBA game between Chet and Wemby.

But that 4:55 mins to 6:05 mins mark....I think is the first time I see such an upset and frustrated Wemby

For those people talking about fox-wemby pnr forget about it. FYI Wemby doesnt know how to set a screen properly.
But maybe fox does. :st-stirthepot:

I’ve also been thinking about kornet wemby pick and rolls. I don’t see any teams who has the personnel to guard that other than Houston.

People need to get over the fact that his personality is not that of a Tim Duncan and stop trying to make him be what he's not. Wemby I would say is more closer to the spectrum of a Kobe where he welcomes the publicity and wants the recognition and the competitive accolades.

Wemby is more like Manu than Duncan and Castle is more like Duncan than Manu in their character arcs. They are fine. They are team players who want to win and work together to win. No need to compare with hyper-ego stars like Kobe, Garnett etc.

I’m glad Wemby hit 30 minutes last night. Mitch’s substitution pattern for him is still atrocious my god. If he can be 32-35/min a night that’d be ideal, at least above 30 min/game

I'd settle for a solid 30 right now. Then slowly work your way from there.

I wonder if the refs decided to just call a foul immediately after Wemby touched the ball because of that contact. I think a dead ball foul is one FT and the ball in that situation and refs are generally reluctant to award that kind of thing, even though they should.

It maybe deserve its own thread but anyway let's look at Fourth Quarter Victor.

We have seen already fourth quarter Wemby in action but I wanted to put some numbers on it.

At 7,4 points Victor is 7th in the NBA by points per gane scored in the fourth behind Giannis, Mitchel, Reaves (?!), Cade, Kawhi and SGA. Victor is scoring 1 pt per min played in the fourth which put him 3rd behind SGA and Giannis. He is doing it with a a FG% of 53 right behind Giannis (64% !) and Reaves (55%). He scores 42% from 3 in the fourth and blocks at a clip of 0,6 while not turning the ball too much 0,4.

We are lucky to have a guy who can deliver in the fourth... it will become handy comes POs time.

On a side note, Giannis is far from being done, Donovan has crazy +/- in the fourth +3,3 far ahead of everybody and Reaves looks like a legit 4th quarter dude

So Mitch I don't know how you do that (that's a you problem) but Victor needs to play in the fourth and a lot.

Wemby’s pet minute production has been insanely good during these minutes restrictions. Can he keep up that level of production with more minutes? Can he stay fresh enough to keep being a 4th quarter performer?
I sure would like to find out

well at least we saw he is ok with 30 mn. Hopefully Victor will now play around 30 mn for a stretch of games before going after a 35/36 mn mark like last year before his clot issue
