Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

The franchise player having to prove himself to earn minutes and to finally get back his place in the SL is downright ASININE.
Re-integrating him to the SL is the most important thing ATM IMO. I get having to do this shtick for now to ease him back into it but to suggest that he needs to "earn" anything leaves me gobsmacked.
Surely you don't really believe this is happening, do you? :st-lol:

If Wemby accepts this bullshit bench/minutes restriction thing for long he goes from a "coachable" superstar to a neutered push-over in my eyes. There is just no way a rookie coach should be doing that to a player of Wemby's caliber.
Agree 100%.He should act like a superstar/ franchise player. Lebron and joedan never played off the bench.

Neither did Tim
I remember Tim coming off the bench at least once (maybe he did a game or two more, but I don't remember) when he was returning from injury. Around that time Allen Iverson also had an injury and was asked to come of the bench when he returned from injury and went mental about it and refused to come off the bench. Chucked a real hissy fit about it and flat out refused. The very next day or two Pop had TD come off the bench returning from an injury. Allen Iverson also wanted to be traded around that time and he was wearing a George Gervin Spurs jersey during his pregame interview. Not sure if he was hinting at something or just a coincidence that he was wearing the Iceman jersey, but I found it funny Pop brings TD off the bench the very next game and TD was 100% cool with it.

There was a point last night where Mitch absolutely ripped Wemby after another one of his careless turnovers on a drive and my respect for Mitch shot through the roof. Then a bit later Wemby got benched and we never saw him again in the game. I don’t know if this was evident on the broadcast but from my view behind the bench it was interesting. Wemby also walked to the locker room a bit before everyone else and I’m not sure if it was to get treatment or if he was upset. He applauded the visiting fans on his way out (little elements like this from soccer culture are awesome and I love that Wemby embraces them) but he did look kinda off. That being said, if I was a betting man I’d put it on his recent loss.

I am glad Mitch is actually coaching him though and if you guys think him being on the bench for a bit is going to somehow make him massively angry at the Spurs or that it is some sign of disprespect then I really worry about how yall move in your everyday lives when you have to handle dissapointment. If Wemby is that mentally weak then he’s not who I think he is and he’s not the one to lead a championship team. Pops failure to coach these kids much over the past few years was the clearest indicator he had lost it and I’m glad Mitch is not going with that approach.
This.

Reading some of the takes here, you'd never believe these are fans of the same team that famously preached people should "get over themselves", to sacrifice the individual for the team, to check the ego at the door, that your best players CAN come off the bench and it's not a sign of disrespect whatsoever..........

It's like the meme - Manu coming off the bench? Flirting! Wemby coming off the bench a couple games? .....Human Resources?!??! :st-lol:

PS. great to hear that Mitch is an actual coach with authority in the locker room, which also seems to be a point of question for some.

Of course Timmy was cool with it, it's one of the more tangible aspects of Spurs Culture lol, how quickly we forget!

Yeah if you can believe it people categorize manu differently from a guy some believe to have GOAT potential. It’s weird how we aren’t just applying the same standard.

Tim made a joke about this bench game with irony somehow connected with AI3.

Not sure who you're talking about here, except for a couple posters not liking the optics of him coming off the bench, the majority finds it good and even much suggested keeping it that way.

The thing is we don't know, we'd obviously rip Wemby apart if we learned he acted like a diva or didn't "get over himself"

Duncan came off the bench 3 times in his entire career. Wemby came off the bench 4 games in a row. Huge difference.

I've been watching sports since the early 90s.

I don't know how many players have ever been as dominant of a defensive player as Wemby is, but that number is rapidly dwindling to 1. And I'm not even talking about basketball, I'm talking about any sport.

He almost single-handedly shut off the ENTIRE paint against the #1 seed tonight and did so in such a complete way that they didn't even try to score in the paint.

Wemby isn't even the best defender in the NBA, the gap between him and #2 is larger than the gap between #2 and the #75 guy. It's a chasm. He's the DPOY no matter who gets the award.

I don't know that I've ever seen a basketball player do what he does. And he's 21. God damn.

Well, Wemby's block streak came to an end, but at least we got the W.
And what I love is that Wemby was just as amped for this win. You could see it in his emotions that he is loving this right now, and so is the team. He senses that this is more than just a playoff team but looking like a real contender. They are hungry!

Him returning to the starting lineup in the Christmas game would put the fear of God even more on OKC.

I think OKC has nothing to lose now. Next game they'll be at home... gotta attack him with everything they got and hope he gets in foul trouble.

They have to try a different strategy against him and see how it worls.

Wemby is living rent-free in every NBA players' mind, it's truly shocking to witness...

He can have an average to bad game by his standards and still be the most impactful player on the floor.

Please keep him healthy, I want to witness a decade + of crazy stuff
