Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

If Wemby accepts this bullshit bench/minutes restriction thing for long he goes from a "coachable" superstar to a neutered push-over in my eyes. There is just no way a rookie coach should be doing that to a player of Wemby's caliber.

Mitch doesn't have anything to say about minutes restrictions.

It's the medical staff (who openly admits they have no idea really and are being overly conservative by principle smh)

Just for reminder it wasn't even a real injury but a bruise or a knock, Wemby admitted he has no pain a cple days later

Allow me to do a little advertising. Two years ago, I launched The Wemby Block Challenge. The goal? To block 50 All-Star players.

Currently, Victor has blocked 48 All-Star players.

The list and dates of blocked AS players:
https://lasaveurdesgoutsamers.com/basket-ball/the-wemby-block-challenge/

All-Stars still available (having avoided a block so far):

Atlanta Hawks: Kristaps Porziņģis
Boston Celtics: Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown
Charlotte Hornets: LaMelo Ball
Cleveland Cavaliers: Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley (2025)
Dallas: D'Angelo Russell
Golden State Warriors: Al Horford
Houston Rockets: Fred VanVleet
Los Angeles Clippers: Kawhi Leonard, Ben Simmons, Bradley Beal, Chris Paul
Miami Heat: Tyler Herro (2025)
Oklahoma City Thunder: Jalen Williams (2025)
Orlando Magic: Paolo Banchero
Portland Trail Blazers: Jrue Holiday
Sacramento Kings: Zach LaVine
Utah Jazz: Kevin Love
Washington Wizards: Khris Middleton

I love seeing Wemby coming off the bench to completely alter games, especially while the starters build a lead out at least keep it close.
It's a long season, he may as well stay fresh.

with us being in the 2 seed, he'd have a legitimate case for MVP if our coaching staff would stop thinking of him being a bench player,
It is getting close to reeking of disrespect to your superstar. This better not be them thinking they could turn him into a glorified Tyson Chandler (rim-running/protecting big) instead of actually unlocking his offense -- a point which still remains the single most untapped potential of this team.

It cannot be a medium or long term strategy to pull him off the bench.

Aside from all the ridiculousness of it all from Vic’s point of view, we’re putting too much wear on Kornett. We preserve Wemby at the expense of our only other big, whose body is meant for 3rd string.

If we had better center depth ok - play it out until a good team goes up 30-12 on us to start the game. But we need to protect korn dog’s health too.

Calling it now: Thunder will stomp us out of the gate in one of these 2 games, maybe then the cuteness will stop. Not even Pop had Duncan benched in more than 3 games in a 19-year career. GTFO Mitch..

This would never happen…

I actually think bringing Wemby off the bench could be a real advantage rather than a gimmick. Pairing him with Harper, Champ, and Johnson would create a second unit that most teams simply couldn’t match. You’re talking about elite rim protection and balanced scoring all 48 minutes.

Kornet, Barnes, Vassell, Castle, and Fox gives the Spurs balance and enough shots for everyone. Then when Wemby checks in like a hockey style line change.

It’s a fairy tale idea
lol Mitch and medical read this

The cuteness of this team is not one of its strengths. If the front office spent as much time looking at film of 2nd round prospects as they do dreaming up flimsy rationalizations for their own bad ideas we’d be in even better shape.

that 2nd round pick could have been used for Maxime Raynaud. I know that he wanted to play in California and playing time but playing like he does right now, he would get 20+ minutes easily behind Wemby and Kornet.

There was a point last night where Mitch absolutely ripped Wemby after another one of his careless turnovers on a drive and my respect for Mitch shot through the roof. Then a bit later Wemby got benched and we never saw him again in the game. I don’t know if this was evident on the broadcast but from my view behind the bench it was interesting. Wemby also walked to the locker room a bit before everyone else and I’m not sure if it was to get treatment or if he was upset. He applauded the visiting fans on his way out (little elements like this from soccer culture are awesome and I love that Wemby embraces them) but he did look kinda off. That being said, if I was a betting man I’d put it on his recent loss.

I am glad Mitch is actually coaching him though and if you guys think him being on the bench for a bit is going to somehow make him massively angry at the Spurs or that it is some sign of disprespect then I really worry about how yall move in your everyday lives when you have to handle dissapointment. If Wemby is that mentally weak then he’s not who I think he is and he’s not the one to lead a championship team. Pops failure to coach these kids much over the past few years was the clearest indicator he had lost it and I’m glad Mitch is not going with that approach.

I saw him talk to Mitch when he exited the game 40 seconds into the 4th quarter. First, I thought that he might have injured himself again but looking at his minutes I'm pretty sure that Mitch told him that he got his 21 minutes and it's better for him to sit down and rest before OKC game, Wemby is probably getting fed up with missing games and time management.

i've heard some speculation that Wemby left early to get on a flight to France.

I wouldn’t mind seeing this used selectively like when there are back to backs against meh teams - sure, get cute with minutes then.

I don't have a problem with Wemby coming off the bench. Whatever makes this Team better for a solid 48 minutes. He's got stamina issues anyways. Weather that is due to lack of conditioning or him somewhat still dealing with clotting issues I have no idea. But if you notice out there Steph is a machine while Wemby is the Polar opposite.

I also think there is a couple of other reasons Mitch is working the rotation like this for now. The Team seemed to be in quite the offensive flow during Wemby's absence for one. Another, is deploying Wemby later seems to be very disruptive to other Teams. A ploy maybe to mess with other Teams psychologically, or that and the fact that he literally alters how Teams operate offensively by just being out there.

It's working well right now why change it? Guys here worried about tarnishing Wemby's legacy. I don't think that is at the top of concerns for Mitch.

lmao if anything, getting smacked by okc leads to wemby getting shut down, the cuteness is a spursfan not understanding wemby's physio is calling the shots.

Where have u heard that?

If that's the case he'll miss BOTH games vs Okc, it doesn't make any sense to put his body at risk after a jet lag and dozens of hours in a plane...

The Spurs availability list comes out at 5PM today for the OKC game. I believe that the Thunder get more time, maybe noon tomorrow, since they play the first of their B2B tonight.

They'd be idiots to even entertain that idea.

You get to wear the dunce cap, for now.
