Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

His grandma passed away and he found out right before the game.
Geez you pathetic bozos.
No one here knew that. Stop ragging on people that were venting after a tough loss/poor performance from him after he talked himself up bigtime (I wasn't happy with his play, but didn't really get on him about it. I easily could have as I'd prefer he doesn't talk it up and then come out and play poorly. Jokic is a phenomenal player and he kind of disrespected him with what he said). In any case, do you think everyone that piled on him during the game would have if they knew what happened beforehand? I would have been telling him not to play the game if I knew his grandmother passed away. If he was very close, it would have been crushing for him to hear that and then have to turn around and play a game. He probably didn't want to let his teammates down, but he should have taken it off. If it was Pop coaching, I doubt he would have let him play. I'm quite relieved that he didn't get hurt as his mind doesn't look like it was into the game at all and he could have gotten hurt playing against a physical Knicks team.

TD, I can't remember how many games he took off in the 2002 playoffs, but I think he took game 3 and maybe 4 off against the Supersonics and came back for game 5. This was just a regular season game. Sure it was for the Emirates Cup final, but still not anywhere close to a playoff game.

ultimately the funnier posters are the guys who say "we need a big to do big things bc victor isn't built for that"

Exactly that.

typical ST logic. use sample size to argue how great a player is and then use sample size to argue how terrible that same player is. go back to any franchise player's 3rd season and find me a player who didn't have an ass game from time to time. remember MJ's 19-point, 8-turnover game (8-for-22 shooting) in Game 1 of the '95 ECSF? or Kobe shooting 38% for the entire series against the Pistons in the '04 Finals?

I don't see a fit with KG personality wise... I mean Victor reads books in the locker room, KG is entertaining and stuff had a great career but dude does not strike me as being the most oxygenated trout of the river tbh...
Personality wise I think KG is crazy, but he is a basketball junkie and seems to be really sharp in his basketball takes. Game-wise he is the perfect fit for Wemby, I would love to have Wemby emulate his game after Garnett instead of Durant. Wemby is a 7'5" Garnett with better handles.

I believe it's easier to work with somebody that is a fit and I don't see those 2 getting along. As for basketball takes I don't follow him but the little I've heard is some podcasts here and there and he does not strike me as the sharpest tool in the box. Game wise Garnett could surely help on some aspects but they are different players, I disagree with the ideia of Wemby being a 7'5 Garnett. Garnett did not shoot the 3s, Garnett was a willing passer just for a few years, Garnett was a trash talker trying to enter into people heads, not a great shot blocker, handles etc.... What Victor should emulate is Jokic on offense, that should be the goal imho. On defense he can work on stuff of course but there we have Duncan.

timmy missed 1 game vs the sonics after his father passed away (spurs lost by 12 and the sonics tied the series 2-2. that was in the best of 5 days)

Give him the next 3 games off for compassionate leave
That would get him dangerously close to losing out on DPOY for the 3rd year in a row.

But it's up to him tbh. Everyone would understand.

Sucks that we had that 4th quarter shitshow.

At least no one was sticking their thumb up other people's assholes during the celebration. lol That was some real weird shit.

how is this team is supposed to jell with more missed games? Three games off in the middle of the season when Wemby only just returned from a month long absence seems short sided.

I seriously doubt he’ll take that time off. Right now, he can only miss five more games before he drops out of awards eligibility.

I realize you are not really stating otherwise, but in the end, none of us here (I assume) know any of these guys personally. And I kind of disagree with you on another point: Wemby and KG can work on some stuff for a bit whithout having to become great buddies. Also, Garnett was a great team player (basketball wise) and an amazing defender. I think people sometimes mistake "Player A is working out with former star Player B" for "A will just do what B did afterwards".

I may be wrong, but I think he picked up a game played from last night, even if it doesn't count for the team. so i think he has a six game cushion now.

I don’t think that’s correct. Nothing about that game counts, no win/loss, no stats. Not sure why it would count for games played.

I do not know the cultural norms in France (obviously, but the schedule kind of works out for Wemby to head out to France after the Hawks game and by back for the two Thunder games, missing only a game @ WAS that we should be able to take care of without him. Being on the east coast (and at major international airports) helps. Of course Wemby could get a private charter if he wanted (and I don't know the rules about sponsors providing these kinds of things), but getting to Paris from Atlanta or DC is a hell of a lot stressful than from San Antonio.

Either way, I expect Wemby and Spurs to go along with whatever Wemby needs.

SAN ANTONIO — During this past NBA offseason, San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama spent time with NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett to pick his brain about the game and more.
“We didn’t do anything. He wanted an exchange, and it was more like some intro (expletive). He’s on a journey to seek knowledge,” Garnett said. “He doesn't wanna be in that box of the French player, blah, blah, blah. He’s trying to break that whole narrative. He’s changing the way we look at the five position.".....................Said Garnett: "I talked to him about simplifying things and dealing with space. He wants to be something outside of the box. He’s about to be something different that we have never seen."

We need to unleash this version of Wemby, but how?>>>>??????
