Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Thank goodness Pop is in the front-office. He'd would be trying to stifle what Wemby is saying, "that's not who we are" and all that other "it's just basketball" BS.

Pop would also be riding with Sochan instead of benching him like Mitch. He doesn’t do the pecking order stuff like Pop. Carter Bryant would have had all mostly DNPs up to this point too.

Maybe it was my TV settings, but Victor looked a little pale. Wonder if he was up late playing chess on the strip last night.

time to admit we don't have a franchise player. This is castles team now. wemby will always be overcoming some minor injury that stymies his growth,. His idea and skill set is not what the nba wants. Luka is the foreign star , jokic is the better talent. wembys best years will be as a number 2 or 3, on an existing Playoff team. the next kevin durant in more ways than one.

Hopefully Castle becomes good enough to carry him to the finish line so all that trash talk doesn't become too embarrassing for him

don't have a problem with wemby's bluntness/trash talk. it's clearly what motivates him. he's been that way since his youth and the organization knew what they were signing up for in that regard. the guy's not a duncan clone and never will be.

but with that comes the other side of the coin and accepting being clowned when it doesn't go his way. knicks players will probably have something to say about his "not sophisticated" remark and OKC will absolutely have that "ethical basketball" line in mind for the two games next week whether it was directly aimed at them or not.

will be interesting to see how he responds to tonight and what happens if/when OKC beat the brakes off us in at least one of those christmas games. hopefully no pouting and a performance drop-off in the few games after because, if he wants to lean into a MJ/KG-style persona, he'll need to have an iron resolve that doesn't disappear when you inevitably lose some battles.

I could be completely off the mark, but in my opinion his issue is that he thinks he can become the GOAT only if he becomes KD 2.0 on offense. Something unprecedented and never seen before. And that's unlikely to happen.

In reality, what we need him to do and what can get him into GOAT conversations is becoming modern Admiral 2.0 with a deadly 3pt shot.
Lob, dunk, mid-range mismatch exploit, 3pt shot and the greatest defender ever.
With our guards we really don't want to waste possessions on his iso ball.

He just needs to simplify things for himself and NOT try to hit a home run every time he gets the ball.
Good better best, never let it rest. don’t stop until your good is better and your better is best. I loved this quote and Duncan said his mom would always tell him this. And best doesn’t mean crowd pleasing or flashy, it simply means high quality.

That should be the mindset on offense for Wemby. If he truly gets in the mindset to do whatever is needed for the team to win, having high quality possession every time, he will get better and will be rewarded for it.

Wemby is a product of French Basketball. So inherently soft. In his mind he is a guard/forward. It's going to be a process for him to learn to take advantage of his height down low. He needs to be able to be stronger with his hands and arms when he's got the ball inside the key.

Note: we are all probably just salty about the loss.

Michael Wright posted on X that Wemby lost someone close to him today. And Wemby was emotional at his press conference. Maybe that had something to do with his performance

Wemby will never be reliable as an offensive Big man, Kornet is a better P&R and lob option than him.

We need to find a big inside/out wing asap otherwise it'll always be a struggle, even more in the POs where team will adjust

The thing is he is a weak and indecisive screener. It almost like he abhors this essential fundamental of a big man. He is so often fast to pop after barely setting the screen motion. Castle/Harper-Kornet one-two game is way more fluid than with Wemby. It is no surprise our offense rolled without him.

This was the clip of him crying over losing someone close to him.

So is it better to trade wemby?

Lol. Some of these posters here are absolute buffoons. Wemby wasn't at his best today but he had moments (3rd quarter) where he was balling. One bad (and it's just relative) game in just his second game after injury and with minute restrictions doesn't really define him. The same Wemby carried the team over OKC the other night. Wemby will be fine. He will still be the linchpin for this team and some of you buffoons should take a chill pill.

I personally wouldn't do it/like it, but you're right and that's why I don't comment on it much. I didn't like what he said about the Knicks offense and what sounded like a shot at the Thunder. I think it will motivate the Thunder and maybe also could have played a part in the Knicks playing as hard as they did. Anyway, like you said, it's what made him who he is, so you can't really tell him or expect him to stop doing it. If he does, then that likely means he's not gunning for greatness anymore.

I'd like him to simplify his game like you're saying, but I'm not Victor and I don't have his body or skillset, so I can't really tell him how to do it. I'd just like to save him years of having to work it all out.

Your observation seems to have been accurate as now that we've heard, it's likely to do with his grandmother's passing :(.

You usually don’t like to work with personalities u don’t like, not sure what’s hard to understand.
who says Wemby doesn't like KG? He obviously linked up with him in the offseason. Y'all just make up anything

Wemby definitely looked a bit off against the Knicks. At first I thought it was just fatigue and lack of "match fitness", but him having to process the death of his grandma explains a lot. To me, his drop-off was most notable defensively. His shot looks really good and should always be an effective counter for when he can't get closer to the rim.
