I never saw the footage. I remember reading about this, but never saw the footage when it happened. Didn't have access to watch it in AU back then. Here's a clip of David Robinson getting a concussion back in '98 against Karl Malone. I know people are scared for Victor recovering from this mentally but David was able to recover from his and he's been mentally stable 28 years later after the incident happened. I'm sure Victor will be fine longterm mentally. On a sidenote I looked up how many games David missed with the concussion and it was 3 games.
Yeah, I've definitely noticed that in the short time I've been watching MMA. Once someone has been knocked out once, they're not normally the same. They don't seem to fight the same, either. Once Adesenya got knocked out, it's never really been the same for him and he's gone on a huge slide. I really didn't think that would happen with someone his skill level. I mean, maybe he's been worked out a bit due to the more fights you have, the more footage there is for opponents to study you, but he's gone on a huge slide. Maybe it wasn't the knock out in his case, though, and more of the other stuff. I don't know.I know NFL and MMA are different but
My only irrational concern with Wemby in regards to this concussion is the downfall I've seen UFC fighters (after a KO) and NFL players (after a concussion).
They lose their chin and more susceptible to reoccurrence of another concussion.
Thanks for telling us your experience. I have definitely not had one going by what you've just said. I've been hit in the head before a few times and felt dazed, but nothing like that. That sounds like a proper/legit/full-on concussion. Hopefully you are all good now.Man I had a mild concussion about 12 years ago. Didn’t even realize I had hit my head that hard in the moment. It was like 2 days later when I realized I really had my bell rung.
Shit was miserable. Ambient noise at a restaurant was unbearable. Lights were disorienting. Couldn’t recall basic facts, vocabulary went down like 30%. The thought of feeling like that in a packed arena environment sounds like torture.
Took a solid week to feel back to normal.
Yup. There's also different grades of concussions (1-3) which affects recovery time. The concussion is the main concern but that jaw is going to be sore as fuck too. I would imagine something as simple as talking could cause pain. We all know he is one hell of a competitor but he should take all the time he needs to recover.Concussions for basketball players are most of the time an one time thing with no long term consequences. It is however a serious injury and Spurs will for sure follow the whole concussion protocol to the letter. It also seems there is a lot of variance in recovery time for concussions. Guesstimate when he could be back seems impossible.

That's really dangerous man. You could of died. Lucky nothing worse happened.I had one after fainting while taking a piss in the middle of the night in my early 20s (thankfully I had finished so I didn’t get any on myself). Hit the back of my head, woke up babbling a minute later & had a headache for a day or two. probably should’ve gotten checked out lol
Wish I was able to see that game. I just read about it after it happened. Didn't really get to see the emotion of how it played at. At least your explanation has given me a bit of a glimpse/feel for the game and incident. I remember Tim used to always step up against the Jazz. Maybe that game sort of lit a bit of a fire against them for TD.I remember being a Freshman in Highschool when it happened and being enraged. Malone became my most hated player of all time after that incident. It was also the first time I saw Duncan truly angry. I remember how pissed off Duncan was when that play happened and I remember him going off in that game granted the Spurs lost but it was one of the first glimpses I saw of how competitive Duncan was.
Yeah in retrospect it was really stupid and I should’ve known better. I think I crumpled at my knees so it was a shorter fall to the ground but still, dumb afThat's really dangerous man. You could of died. Lucky nothing worse happened.
I'm pretty sure that's how actor/comedian Bob Saget died. What you said sort of reminds me of what I read about his incident. He hit the back of his head in a fall in his hotel room (that is, if it's all true and there was no foul play involved). Went to sleep like nothing happened and ended up dead.

Good sign at least. He'll be fine I'm sure. Spurs just need to hold down the fort without him for a couple of gamesNevermind I must of missed this
They find CTE even in high school football players. Thankfully concussions and thus CTE are way less of a threat in basketball than football or futbol but definitely not something to treat any less than dead serious for Victor.Darn, that sucks. Didn't realize a lot of those guys were that young. I didn't know Hernandez had CTE. That would explain the behavioral issues and things like the murder.
Yeah, well, at least you're OK. I mean, I would have probably done the same thing. Reading that article, I didn't know how serious those blows could be even if you think you feel OK after it, sometimes it can be a lot more. I also wonder if Bob Saget was drinking or on something. If he was, might not have felt the severity of it. Anyone should really get stuff like that checked out if it ever happens. Sounds like you lessened the blow crumpling down a bit too.Yeah in retrospect it was really stupid and I should’ve known better. lol at least there was no insult to the injury. Glad you were ultimately okay, that sounds pretty scary.I had one after fainting while taking a piss in the middle of the night in my early 20s (thankfully I had finished so I didn’t get any on myself). lol you think they're going to say anything more than they have to? do you understand they have no responsibility to update their fans on anything, because that gives Portland an advantage as well?Scheduled Spurs Wemby update or will it just be random?
Like do they have an Everyday at 4pm presser?
I used to think Football is one of the most dangerous sports, but for other injuries. Never really thought about CTE that much. I guess I stopped watching NFL when all this stuff was coming to light. I never had a steady team I followed since I'm in AU.They find CTE even in high school football players. Original EpsteinMan, I hate Karl Malone. Triggered.
I remember being petrified when this happened. I chalk this up to youth and ego. I remember being 22 and feeling absolutely invincible. Wemby is smart enough to learn from his mistakes, concussion notwithstanding. But the coaches and the "adults" around him need to get in his ear about this stuff because it CANNOT happen again.does anybody here realize that the same thing happened to Wemby in game 1? He didn't get a concussion, but hurt his rib instead. He has to be smarter in these situations.
Thanks for this Splits. I sure wish the Spurs at least interviewed Tiago for the HC job before the season started. Not sure if you name is based on Splitter or if I'm completely wrong on that. I assume you were at least somewhat of a fan of his back in the day.lol you think they're going to say anything more than they have to? do you understand they have no responsibility to update their fans on anything, because that gives Portland an advantage as well?
look out for 2 things tomorrow: 1) Mandatory injury report released by 8pm CET 2) If Wemby travels with the team, he might play game 4. If he doesn't travel with the team, he is missing both games 3 and 4
I forgot about that play, but I did remember worrying he hurt his ribs again. Doesn't look like the lesson was learned. Hopefully now it is, but I also don't want him playing passive if he is able to return. That won't help either as you can get hurt playing that way too and hurt the team at the same time.does anybody here realize that the same thing happened to Wemby in game 1? Good so far... I feel like we owe Wemby a game here because we should have put them away last night.. Rest up on Friday and Steph, Fox, Harper, KJ, Devin and the boys.. Lets get 1..
And that move right there Wemby just needs to pull up mid range.. They bit on the shot fake for 3.. He had 2 big steps just pull up and shoot it. He doesn't need to be spinning like Giannis trying to get all the way to the hoop..does anybody here realize that the same thing happened to Wemby in game 1? Or just attack the rim without these out of control spinsAnd that move right there Wemby just needs to pull up mid range.. Got the shot fake at the 3 that worked.. 2 big steps just pull up and shoot it. He doesn't need to be spinning like Giannis trying to get all the way to the hoop..
