Here's a clip of David Robinson getting a concussion back in '98 against Karl Malone. I know people are scared for Victor recovering from this mentally but David was able to recover from his and he's been mentally stable 28 years later after the incident happened. I'm sure Victor will be fine longterm mentally. On a sidenote I looked up how many games David missed with the concussion and it was 3 games.

I never saw the footage. I remember reading about this, but never saw the footage when it happened. Didn't have access to watch it in AU back then.

My only irrational concern with Wemby in regards to this concussion is the downfall I've seen UFC fighters (after a KO) and NFL players (after a concussion).

They lose their chin and more susceptible to reoccurrence of another concussion.

Yeah, I've definitely noticed that in the short time I've been watching MMA. Once someone has been knocked out once, they're not normally the same. They don't seem to fight the same, either. Once Adesenya got knocked out, it's never really been the same for him and he's gone on a huge slide. I really didn't think that would happen with someone his skill level. I mean, maybe he's been worked out a bit due to the more fights you have, the more footage there is for opponents to study you, but he's gone on a huge slide. Maybe it wasn't the knock out in his case, though, and more of the other stuff. I don't know.

Same with Robert Whittaker. I am a huge fan of his and he wasn't the same. You could even say the fights against Yoel Romero took a lot out of him (even though he didn't get knocked out, he took a lot of damage those fights).
Volk, another guy I am a huge fan of his and that Makhachev head kick was brutal. He's bounced back, but I don't feel he's the same, either. He wasn't as good in that Topuria fight after that knockout head kick and was maybe more susceptible to getting knocked out by Ilia. Probably came back way too early too. Usman, another guy that was amazing until that knockout.

Darn. I hope Vic is alright. Just going through all this above, I'd much rather the Spurs focus on his health and not try and rush him back if he isn't 100%, or darn close to it.

Man I had a mild concussion about 12 years ago. Didn’t even realize I had hit my head that hard in the moment. It was like 2 days later when I realized I really had my bell rung.

Shit was miserable. Ambient noise at a restaurant was unbearable. Lights were disorienting. Couldn’t recall basic facts, vocabulary went down like 30%. The thought of feeling like that in a packed arena environment sounds like torture.

Took a solid week to feel back to normal.

Thanks for telling us your experience. I have definitely not had one going by what you've just said. I've been hit in the head before a few times and felt dazed, but nothing like that. That sounds like a proper/legit/full-on concussion. Hopefully you are all good now.

Concussions for basketball players are most of the time an one time thing with no long term consequences. It is however a serious injury and Spurs will for sure follow the whole concussion protocol to the letter. It also seems there is a lot of variance in recovery time for concussions. Guesstimate when he could be back seems impossible.

Yup. There's also different grades of concussions (1-3) which affects recovery time. The concussion is the main concern but that jaw is going to be sore as fuck too. I would imagine something as simple as talking could cause pain. We all know he is one hell of a competitor but he should take all the time he needs to recover.

I remember being a Freshman in Highschool when it happened and being enraged. Malone became my most hated player of all time after that incident. It was also the first time I saw Duncan truly angry. I remember how pissed off Duncan was when that play happened and I remember him going off in that game granted the Spurs lost but it was one of the first glimpses I saw of how competitive Duncan was.

I had one after fainting while taking a piss in the middle of the night in my early 20s (thankfully I had finished so I didn’t get any on myself). Hit the back of my head, woke up babbling a minute later & had a headache for a day or two. probably should’ve gotten checked out lol

That's really dangerous man. You could of died. Lucky nothing worse happened.

I'm pretty sure that's how actor/comedian Bob Saget died. What you said sort of reminds me of what I read about his incident. He hit the back of his head in a fall in his hotel room (that is, if it's all true and there was no foul play involved). Went to sleep like nothing happened and ended up dead .

Yeah, well, at least you're OK. I mean, I would have probably done the same thing. Reading that article, I didn't know how serious those blows could be even if you think you feel OK after it, sometimes it can be a lot more. I also wonder if Bob Saget was drinking or on something. If he was, might not have felt the severity of it. Anyone should really get stuff like that checked out if it ever happens. Sounds like you lessened the blow crumpling down a bit too.
Man, I gotta get a new computer chair. I keep leaning back and it's broken, and directly behind me is a table. If it breaks, I could easily fall back and crack the back of my head on the table. I gotta get a new chair and at least stop leaning back on it until I do.

I used to think Football is one of the most dangerous sports, but for other injuries. Never really thought about CTE that much. I guess I stopped watching NFL when all this stuff was coming to light. I never had a steady team I followed since I'm in AU.

I started a Rams fan, then followed the Giants for a couple of seasons when Kurt went there with a rookie Eli Manning., Arizona Cardinals and then Seahawks. It was that 2014 Superbowl did me in. I only watched about half the games in the regular season as I just didn't have the time. I was freaking not happy with Russell Wilson earlier in those playoffs and he capped it off with the dumbest/worst 1 yard goal line first down in NFL history IMO. I think I would have stayed a Seahawks fan if it wasn't for that season and superbowel. I got on the train the year before they won it. I thought they were a good young team (I loved the defense and I liked Marshawn Lynch's running game) and RW was a good young quarterback. I can't remember what show it was, but after his team lost in the first round of the playoffs his rookie season, he was on one of the NFL shows as an analyst for the rest of the playoffs and I liked his knowledge and thought he was spot on in what he said about the remaining teams. He sounded like a good leader and very knowledgeable. Little did I know he'd become delusional a few years later. I'm happy they won the Superbowl this year and hopefully that makes up for it a little bit to all those Seattle fans, but I wasn't going to get back on the bandwagon since I got off years ago. It didn't feel right to just jump back on the bandwagon during the playoffs.
