Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

I'm not doing any work today until I get a report on Wemby
there's not going to be any "report" other than what's listed on the injury report at 6pm, which will most likely be "out". last thing the spurs are going to do is describe the injury in any detail or give any timeline for full recovery so other teams can target his injury

In many ways, no report would be good because that would suggest that the injury is consistent with the initial diagnosis. What we don’t want to hear is that the injury is worse than originally reported.

Basically we have 11 or 12 days before the playoffs.. The pain in the ass is that 65 game rule.. So he needs 20 min by the last reg season game on Sunday. Then the Spurs have 6 or 7 days off, so he could rest this rib.. But he can't aggravate it further in that last game.. So punt on the last game. It is NOT likely to matter. If Wemby wants the post-season awards so bad which he know he does, then just put your gear into neutral and get to 20 min. Take like 3 shots, and play ZERO D whatever.. Just get the 20 min..

Fuck this rule. Put him in the corner and dont have him move at all. Let him get his 20 minutes by doing nothing.
The problem with that is I don't know if it's possible to leash Wemby. He's got that Manu gene...if he's playing, he's going to play hard.

Yes.. Stand at the 3 pt line and let your man score on the other end.. But it is Denver and you have to worry about cheap shots targeting the rib.. He needs to wear like a flak jacket..

FTA getting the MVP and Chet getting DPOY right before we tip off against them in the WCF would be hilarious tbh. Victor might average 40/20 with 5 blocks per game :st-lol:

Denver game and any other remaining game is meaningless. Plus Denver is not a dirty team. Let him just chill in the corner. Also, PATFO should be petitioning along with the NBPA agains this dumbass rule after this season.

This is the downside of playing it too safe with Wemby's load: Freak injuries happen. I don't know how he exactly felt pre- Denver & Clippers games he missed, but when you know it will be close shave for 65-game requirement, players don't usually skip those types of games even when not at 100 percent. It would be a crying shame if lose out on DPOY in extremis because of this miscalculation.

You guys will take anything unrelated and try to make it a data point on your bullshit. Dude got a bruise and now this is a statement on how many minutes he plays. Sure, OK.

I love the fact that he averaged 29 minutes a game this season. We have a solid rotation and a balanced roster.

Another problem with the league rule -- it puts players on the margins risking themselves who are already injured in order to pass an arbitrary benchmark.

It was fine before. Voters priced in whether players were available and how many games they played. Once again this is Silver trying to solve one problem (load management) in the wrong way.

Lakers might do this with Luka vs Jazz
If the Jazz are willing to be fined for sitting their best players in the 4th quarter of a competitive game, the Lakers might as well play 4 on 5 for 20 minutes and let Luka cherry pick to get him his spot on the All-NBA first team. Eat the fine, whatever.

Yep, the rule was never about the "integrity of the award". It's to get healthy players to stop sitting out games, and in that regard, it's working. Adam Silver has said as much, which is why I doubt they scrap it already.

The problem now is you've got these fringe cases where players are forced to play through injury to hit some arbitrary number, or miss out on awards that very much determine their next paycheck in some cases. If anyone else gets the DPOY this season, it would devalue the award.

Lakers were going to file Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge for Luka.

Are spurs going to follow suit if injury is worse than thought.

I'm 50/50 on the rule. It has its positives and negatives. The league has for whatever reason to many healthy players sitting out games. At a time when theyre making a ridiculous amount of money per season it just a bad look and hurts the fans who pay big bucks to see them play. The rule helps in that regard. On the other side it also makes players who should probably take time off for a injury try to play to meet the quota risking further injury. I've always said if you're healthy enough to play you play if you're not you sit. There is no reason for healthy players to be sitting as there is no reason for injured players to be playing. And I mean a real injury. Something that could get worse if you risk it, not some little boo boo. Maybe they should add some more exceptions to the rule. Injuries are part of the game and I think Silver should understand that. If a player gets a serious injury or break something they shouldn't be penalized for not playing because they physically can't. Maybe in those scenarios you can count the miss games differently. For example if you miss 3 weeks, 10 games it only counts for 5 games because of the severity of the injury. I don't think sitting players for rest should happen though. I mean at the end of the day most players are playing like 30 minutes a game. Thats not really a lot in my opinion. We are talking about some of the most fit, athletic people alive. On back to backs just let them play the minimum if they really need the rest that bad.

just count the individual game missed (maybe two in a row), which are often used for rest and don't count when you miss more than 2-3 games in a row. Players are not going to miss 3 games in a row just to rest, that could have a big impact on the win-loss of their team

they need to end the requirement two weeks before the playoff so players can rest . I highly doubt the league cares about late season games.
