Gilgeous-Alexander has the case and plays the role historically favored, but for whatever reason he doesn't captivate the masses, at least like Wembanyama.
It's so weird for the Spurs to be on the other side of this, but It seems like people are almost looking for a reason to give it to the latter. I still don't see it happening, but next season he'll likely be the overwhelming favorite and consensus best player by this time of the year.
I also like that the Spurs have got with the times and stopped shunning self promotion when given the opportunity by the media. It cost them in the past with things like Duncan DPOY and Ginobili All-Star selections. Even if they didn't care much or at all, the fans did and that should matter to the organization.
