Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

The klutch drones have been given their directive 😹😹😹

Do not think for a fucking second that a lakers series wouldn’t be a 5 v 8 shitshow. Sweeping them en route to a ring would be generational
If I didn't know any better, I'd say SGA was young, unproven and ringless as recently as last June, after he won his first MVP and led the league in FTM.

Oh wait, my bad, he's Canadian.

What about Luka? Oh wait, he's Slovenian.

And Jokic, who won 2 MVPs before he won his first title, at age 26. Oh wait, he's Serbian.

Lebron won his first MVP at 24, before he won a title. Actually he won two MVPs before his first title. he was number 9 in MVP voting in his rookie year, #6 in in sophomore year, and #2 in his 3rd year.

Man, maybe American players just suck.

Besides, what was Wemby allowed to do that other players weren't allowed to do?

Ugh I hate seeing athletically gifted people who won the genetic lottery excelling at sports! I want to see a bunch of 5'9", 190lb prediabetic guys give it their all on the court!
I assume that guy who posted this has Pickleball and Cornhole on his TVs all the time :st-lol:

I heard one of the talking heads recently say that eligibility for season awards should be based on total minutes. Might have been Bill Simmons. He had said a number but I forgot what it was, maybe 2000? There were 91 players who played at least 2000 minutes last season, though only 8 of those played fewer than 65 games anyway (64/63/62/62/60/60/60/58).

The current standard is just below 1300 (65 games, 20 minutes per game, a couple of exceptions allowed).

on one hand, i get it. people like to talk about "pound for pound" stuff, or who is more "skilled"... but its ultimately meaningless. all that matters is getting it done. i dont care if Luis Scola (Scola thread!) has a wider array of post moves than Shaq. who is the more effective player?

wild surprise, but in the world of professional athletics, athletic ability turns out to play a big role in that. and size is a big aspect of athletic ability. less athletic players have to out-work or out-skill more athletic guys if they want to be as effective. when the more athletic guy is also more skilled, then you have a problem on your hands, like we've seen with many megastars like wilt, russell, magic, kareem, hakeem, jordan, shaq, lebron.

Umm, ackshually 🤓

I'm sorry, but trying to use injuries to three bench role players as an excuse for getting asswhooped two games in a row (one at home on Christmas, no less) is just coping to the highest degree. Like, if we got rolled at home by OKC without KJ, Harper, and CB, I wouldn't be making excuses for our three All-Star tier players getting outclassed and outplayed.

Also, Tyrese Haliburton's achilles tendon sends its regards.

P.S. Damn you tears for the Twitter ragebait lol

Tbh wemby is getting a little bit arrogant about his comment about beating the thunder . Cmon you dont talk like that when you didnt even play a single playoff game let alone beat the reigning and defending nba champs in the playoffs. Beat the the thunder in the playoffs first and win title and say whatever you want to say.

I think he's doing this kinds of response for the media to always talk about him and its good for the league, for the spurs org and for himself. He's trying to hype things up.

Some people in this thread need to understand that you can appreciate Victor without bashing Duncan and you can appreciate Duncan without bashing Victor. I here people in here saying Duncan was boring which sounds just as bad as those idiot media people who used to say it all the time. It also shows how fair weathered some fans are to insult the man who was once the face of the franchise simply to up the new face of the franchise. Personally I liked Duncan's stone cold personality of being private and not expressive. I'm of the old school that it's good not to show your emotions because it helps to give an edge against your opponent.

Now I got no problems with Victor's personality either granted I don't prefer it but I accept that's just who he is and how he fuels himself competitively.
Sorry, I wasnt bashing Tim’s personality but may have come off across as that 😂 My irl personality is way closer to Tim than to Victor.

I guarantee every one of those players would have done ‘Hell Nahs’ going against Vic in the paint, just like SGA and the rest of the guys that actually played did.

OKC runs a gimmick system that relies on turning you over to score a big chunk of their points. That’s not easy to do to a team with three starting caliber PGs, no matter who OKC trots out on the court. If you turn OKC into a half court offense you can beat them. SA and number of teams in the aftermath proved that.

Oh boy. Well, those comments are going to put a lot of pressure on him and create a lot of headlines. He is his own man and doing his own thing. Being old school I would’ve preferred He just left that one alone but he’s a confident dude.
I don't know if your old school comment is meaning to indicate that this somehow didn't happen more in previous eras and I would actually say it happened a whole hell of a lot more. Wemby IS being old school with talking like this. Its much more modern that players are media trained to the point of just repeating the same old bullshit time and time again. This is refreshing and I don't buy into the idea that this can bite him in the ass. Like the obvious thing here is that OKC is somehow going to be more fired up because of these comments, but I dont buy that for a second.

In another thread I said Spurs should take it easy since they're pretty much guaranteed the #2 seed (they just need to keep a couple more games out of the 10 remaining). But after last night's statements by Wemby, I think they're not going to take the foot off the gas because he's fixated on winning MVP, and finishing the season strong, reaching a high mark (say, 62-63 wins) and (at least) cutting OKC's lead to one or two games at most is a must for him for have a chance. I just hope he's fresh for the playoffs, but maybe he needs to achieve individual accolades and get paid before he pivots to an only-win mentality.
If the Spurs have any realistic chance OKC has to lose tomorrow against Boston. We'll see, but I'm not banking on it. I am hopeful if only for the fact that it would make the end of the season a bit more entertaining. I would not be shocked if OKC and the Spurs both enter the playoffs on insane win streaks (although OKC may rest people once they clinch).

Yeah if the Spurs lose that series against the Thunder, those words are going to hang on him forever. Bad choice by Wemby

Yeah I don't buy this for a second. OKC is supposed to beat the Spurs this year, first of all. Second of all, do you think people remember Jordan for losing to the Pistons early in his career or for his 6 rings and everything else? Do people remember Lebron for his early career playoff losses? Hakeem? Etc etc. Obviously Wemby has to do something to have a legacy but the idea that talking some shit and then losing is going to stain him forever is pretty ridiculous. OKC has the MUCH more talented team. The upside potential here is enormous and the downside is virtually non existent. Like what is Wemby supposed to do, not believe that he's the best? Its pretty silly that not displaying fake humility would be some kind of scarlet letter.

Well, the thing about bulletin board material is the media is going to make a lot out of this, especially if they play in the conference finals. In that series The players are going to get asked about it. SGA specifically is going to get asked about it. It just ramps up the pressure on Wemby.

The games aren't played in the media. The last thing I am worried about is how Wemby responds to pressure. The dude was 19 playing insane in the gold medal game. I don't give a fuck what this kid does because he has already proven himself to be capable of handling it.

And losing to OKC won't change that for me one bit. Wemby is playing with house money!
