Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Wemby needs to learn not to take the bait from reporters on these questions. There is no upside to him offering this answer in my view.
totally disagree. nothing is more meh and boring than getting corporate answers from players (looking at you Steph) or coaches (looking at you Mitch) just so they can get through their 5 minute interview. it's refreshing to get honest, well thought-out, insightful answers

Taking a step back and just looking at things from a neutral perspective...a potential OKC/SA series is shaping up to be a historical event. So much going on:

- Two 60+ win teams facing off, with OKC being the defending champs and looking like a historically great team. Ignoring the individual player narratives, you don't see two teams of this caliber face off very often.

- Most likely outcome is SGA wins MVP. The outcome of this series and how SGA/Wemby perform will have a huge impact on how this year's MVP award is viewed for years to come.

- San Antonio beating a team as good as OKC and advancing to the Finals would be one of the more remarkable seasons we've seen in recent memory. From 34 wins the year prior to 60+ wins and a Finals appearance the next year...that's unheard of.

- On the flip side, OKC beating SA and then potentially winning a 2nd straight title would solidify them as the most dominant team since KD's Warriors and put them well on their way to being considered a dynasty. I hate OKC as much as the next guy but back-to-back seasons of >60 wins and a championship doesn't happen super often.

Just a crazy amount at stake, and I really hope we get to see these two teams face off in the WCF. Guess we should focus on getting there first, though :st-lol:

Probably just jarring for Spurs fans since the last few faces of the franchise have been a deaf Mute, Timmy, and the Admiral.

Porky was saying stuff like this all the time but nobody cared because he was 3rd banana tbh.
Yeah that tracks.

You forgot Manu. He never said shit like this either. It’s just jarring as a longtime Spurs fan. When you see that Wemby sought KG’s advice instead of TD’s or Admiral’s, it shows what character he gravitates more to, tbh.

can't find this on youtube to embed, and not a Screamin A fan, but thought this was pretty funny

If Stephen A. Smith finally figured out how to pronounce Wemby's name I just can't for the life of me understand how it just seems utterly impossible (almost physically impossible) for Reggie Miller to say it right.

Manu was never the face of the franchise, never in MVP talks, and frankly was never in the same tier of player as Wemby is. That's coming from somebody that has Manu as his favorite player of all time. If Jordan said something like this, nobody would bat an eye. That's the level that Vic is trying to get to tbh.

You're also making huge character assumptions based on a 22 year old kid's (pretty innocuous) comments and offseason workout partners. People are different tbh.

Wemby’s confidence will quickly be perceived as arrogance if we’re lucky enough to win a few titles with him. I guess that’s what I’m rooting for!
it would be perceived as arrogance if he keeps talking this way and they dont win titles

if only sjax was a spurs lifer :st-lol:

Wemby’s trajectory is in MJ, Lebron talks. Those 2 said more unprompted egregious things than this tbh. Besides, you let the best players talk long as they back it up.

Honestly refreshing after TD’s boring public personality tbh. I say public because teammates have nothing but good things to say about his leadership and quirks.

Timmy’s our GOAT but Wemby’s outspoken persona is a welcome sight for me.

I’m cool with it. It’s just gonna take a little bit of getting used to for me. I’m old school and getting old. What can I say lol. But it’s a new day. 👍

OKC players are cocky. Luka and Ant are some of the biggest trash talkers out there. The same can be said about KD. Curry talks smack. Cooper Flagg is going to be cocky. And LeBron is the king of cockiness. Tatum and Jokic are in the modest category. Jalen Brown is an oddball. Wemby is not in the top 10 of trash talkers but he is brash and sometimes he comes off as arrogant. As Spurs fans, it's not something we are used to seeing. Parker was probably the most cocky Spur (that was a cornerstone of the franchise, that is) we've had but he was overshadowed by Duncan and Pop. It's a new era for this franchise and you all better get used to it. Something tells me that Harper, Castle and Carter Bryant are going to be pretty brash on the court. It makes for a more exciting product that's for sure.

If he said it at the beginning of the season, I'd be like "dude, shut up" because he had a long way to go back then. Turned out that long way to go was 4 months, and he is definitely there now. I am not sure if he is undoubtedly the MVP right now, but he has as strong a case as anyone.

Regular season MVP wins the Championship at a sub 40% clip. Joker, for all his kick ass seasons and 3 MVPs has only 1 Championship, 2023 the year he did not win MVP. (Embiid)
Fluffy Curry has only done it once, the winner-by-injury-default year of 2015. Lebron clearly played circles around Curry in the Finals.
Take out Bill Russell, Jordan, Kream and Bird and it's only 10 seasons.
So MVP of reg season is no ticket to a 'Chip.

Home Run? Wemby winning both.
Choice of MVP or Championship? I'll take legit* Championship over the sportswriters award 10 of 10 times.
*no ref aided b.s. we Spurs want a legit Chip.
