Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

I would’ve been annoyed earlier in the season, but it seems pretty clear now that Wemby can do pretty much whatever he wants on the court, whenever he wants to do it. He’s not bragging, he’s just that good.

That last second 3pt by Jaquez had Wemby shaking his head ,despite leading by almost 30 pts. Wemby is that competitive

Wemby’s confidence will quickly be perceived as arrogance if we’re lucky enough to win a few titles with him. I guess that’s what I’m rooting for!

He backs up every single word he says. He’s got astronomical confidence and astronomical abilities to back it up. This is so crazy. I’m in bliss rn lmfao
He does, but it’s also major Bulletin Board material for SGA in the Western Conference finals. That was some serious bait he took from a reporter.

Yeah if the Spurs lose that series against the Thunder, those words are going to hang on him forever. Bad choice by Wemby
Why?
I don't think he said anything controversial.
I think these comments were more aimed at Luka being ahead of him in MVP race.

And even if the Spurs lose, that's just going to motivate him to get even better, he doesn't look like someone who's going to back down or choke.
Don't forget that he scored 26 in the gold medal game after his rookie season.

I mean the thing with the whole “you can’t give the other team bulletin board material!” argument is this: does anyone really think OKC is not going to already be 110% motivated if we face them in a potential WCF series? :st-lol:

They already had to sit back and watch everyone judge them after losing 4 out of 5 to SA in the regular season. There’s the Chet/Wemby dynamic. The media and basketball world are already having debates and discussions about Wemby vs. SGA being the best in the world. They’re defending champs looking to repeat. How much more motivation do you really think they can get from anything Wemby says?

Well, he specifically talked about beating OKC in the regular season as a major reason for him being the MVP. I’m old school so I would’ve liked him to not go there just to avoid some drama. He’s a young confident dude. But it’s likely going to come around again. And he’s really going to have to back it up.

Well, the thing about bulletin board material is the media is going to make a lot out of this, especially if they play in the conference finals. In that series The players are going to get asked about it. SGA specifically is going to get asked about it. It just ramps up the pressure on Wemby.

He's French.
His statements are as politically correct as it gets by French standards. :st-lol:

I’m not worried about Wemby. I hate giving the media any narratives about him or the team. Plus, it gives more reasons for scoundrels like Dort to try to injure him.

When a bully has been talking and gets their way, does the bullied do nothing? If the Spurs go up 3-0, losers like Dort are going to try shit because of Wemby’s words in the back of his mind.

Thing is Victor seems the kind of guy who does not care about pressure... he is being spoken as the next goat for several years, he chose to embrace it. the SGA stuff compared to that is nothing. it does not add anything on the pressure he already put on his shoulder

The talk will definitely ramp up some of his haters. I know Michael Jordan after the fact talked about being pissed off when other people got the MVP award, but I don’t remember him talking about it when he was playing. Different times.

those young dudes have no chill
:st-lol:

The more Wemby talks, the more the media will hype up his games... the more people will watch... the more valuable the Spurs organization will become.

In another thread I said Spurs should take it easy since they're pretty much guaranteed the #2 seed (they just need to keep a couple more games out of the 10 remaining). But after last night's statements by Wemby, I think they're not going to take the foot off the gas because he's fixated on winning MVP, and finishing the season strong, reaching a high mark (say, 62-63 wins) and (at least) cutting OKC's lead to one or two games at most is a must for him for have a chance. I just hope he's fresh for the playoffs, but maybe he needs to achieve individual accolades and get paid before he pivots to an only-win mentality.
