FWIW Bill Simmon's last podcast he said that Wemby is the best player he has seen play in person all year (which includes SGA, Jokic, Luka, etc). He went on to say that he doesn't know if that makes Wemby the best player in the NBA or not... but Wemby is the best player he's seen (kind of a weird qualifier that seems like just a hedge from having to own the take of "Wemby is the league's best player right now")
 
the admiral had lots of media love early on but it just wore off after a few years when the spurs couldn’t deliver in the playoffs. Hope wemby will keep this love because it means the spurs are doing great in the playoffs.
 
not worried about the 3 pts shot, it will come back, we know he can hit them at a good percentage.

but he keeps on trying ill advised drives that leads to TO or really bad shots. i hope he will erase these ones.

and also, i'm not sure about that, but it seems that he also lacks a reliable floater that would really helps his offensive game a lot i believe.....

but hey he's amazing right now. Scoring 25 like it's nothing and being a monster on defense.

Wemby was fucking insane tonight aside from the 3 ball. Freakish highlights the entire game.

I would normally say that he probably shouldn't say anything about it, but then I think to myself, who am I to say that he shouldn't say anything. If he wants to answer the questions, he can do whatever he wants.

He spoke on this a bit more on his latest podcast and basically Zach Lowe held his feet to the fire on it and Simmons said it was just because it felt too soon so he felt weird about it but they both kinda felt Wemby might be there and just wanted to see it in the playoffs.
