Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

LMA's midrange was predicated on him being an immovable object.
He'd put a defender on his back, catch the ball and turn around.
Wemby can't do that because even guards push him around, meaning he'd take those turnaround shots off balance, no chance to be as efficent.
He wasted his time with the shaolin monks when what he should’ve been doing all along was taichi.

Victor's getting beat up out there. It's one thing that Shaq was played physical, but Vic isn't the same stature. IMO, they should be calling at least half of those fouls.
Yeah, it's a very tired go-around; players are overly physical on Wemby by taking advantage of reffing bias on small vs tall player, then after beating Vic to hell and back, go on podcast talking about "the secret to guarding Wemby".

Just gotta wait it out until the playoffs.

Yeah, it's complete BS. It's one thing with Shaq as he was bigger and stronger than his opponents, but Victor isn't anywhere near as strong, so those fouls are affecting plays/his ability to play. It's supposed to be a non-contact sport. Why in the f$#k are shooters getting fouls on follow throughs after the ball has left their hand, but guys like Victor are allowed to be mauled? It's a retarded look by the league. I'm all for physical defense, but you can't keep fouling a player to take him out of the game because you can't match his skill. Shaq really should have gotten more fouls called for him too.

The physical play against Wemby is difficult to watch, but you have to admire how he bounces back from rough outings and doesn't shy away from defenders who hack and grab and try to ragdoll him. The mental toughness he gains from taking on punks like Bane and Brooks in the regular season will serve us well come playoff time.

Not to be all Pollyanna about this - I understand there's injury risks associated with reckless play. But the posters in this thread who are convinced he's regressing because his assist and block numbers are down (notice his TOs are too!) aren't taking this dynamic into consideration.

Victor can jump, and he's got great instincts for blocking the ball/playing defense.

I don't know if it's because of the old video/footage (it wasn't crystal clear), but the most impressive block I've seen (jumping/height wise) is Len Bias get his hand to what looked like the top of the backboard blocking a shot.
Yeah, Victor can jump higher than people think. He just hasn't had to do it much.

But he has to work for position to consistently get down there. And I don’t see that nearly enough. Yesterday he’s standing on the perimeter by the three-point line. The defense loves that. Remember when LeBron James choked his ass off against Dallas in the NBA finals? That’s what he was doing.
KG was able to get position down low to shoot turn around jumpers, KG was also skinny at that time. Wemby should be able to get that shot to

When KG was drafted out of HS, he was probably 6’10, and likely already weighed more than rookie Wemby, who was 6” taller.

Wemby’s center of gravity is just too high for low post play. It’s the same reasons his picks are terrible.
