Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

3 year luka was already putting superstar number offensively
He was always a superior offensive player, it just that Wemby defense is starting to waxe and wane too (see his rebounding efforts/numbers fluctuations, dumb fouls etc..)

Wemby can drop 30/15/5 vs the Magic for all i care. Come back to me when he wins his next 'Player of the Month' award.

Not falling again for these 'tease games' that have become a trademark of his Year 3 player iteration.

He needs to treat every game like they're facing chet

Like make him think every opponent he comes across is chet Holmgren or some shit

Probably confusing with his gm. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm watching rookie Cooper Flagg against the Rockets and offense is coming more seamlessly for him now than Year 3 Wemby. You just hate to see it.

Flagg has been playing like that his entire life, from AAU to high school. His game is nothing new. Wemby is in the process of transitioning into a different playing style than what he played overseas. That's back to the basket or reading the game from double and/or triple teams from the elbows, etc. They allowed him to play free his first 2 years. This season you can see they're trying to tame him a little and put him in places they think works best for him and then allow him to figure it out from there. That's going to take time and won't happen overnight.

I like how the guy interviewing Brooks acts like he was just told who killed JFK or some shit. Anyone who's watched the Spurs at all this year already knows this, and Brooks has had Wemby's number from his rookie season.

And at what point does he just get down on the block and make a loudmouth like this pay? You can’t let much smaller players consistently get away with guarding you on the perimeter. It’s just stupid.
To be effective on the block, you need to be able to move your defender. He can’t do that. They are basically defending him
With players of roughly Keldon’s build, and Wemby’s ass is about as wide as a tricycle seat.

He needs to be much more effective, catching the ball closer to the basket and there’s no reason he can’t. Catching it on the perimeter. This is why he gets stripped. It’s a long way down to the floor when he dribbles. And when he’s having an off night, he’s often just standing out there doing nothing. imagine if he developed a 15 foot fade away jumpshot like Michael Jordan? Nobody has any chance at blocking that. I’ll take that over bombs away from three any day of the week.

That’s a FT line jumper, exactly 15 feet, which is what I’m advocating.

But he has to work for position to consistently get down there. And I don’t see that nearly enough. Yesterday he’s standing on the perimeter by the three-point line. The defense loves that. Remember when LeBron James choked his ass off against Dallas in the NBA finals? That’s what he was doing.

No no. He tries. He doesn't have the strength due to leverage.
I've watched him over and over establish early on the low block and every time he lifts a foot he gets moved a couple feet out because he can't anchor on one foot.
He won't establish down low and just sink.
That's a problem, although I believe it's also a little bit of inescapable self-preservation as players batter him and over the course of 82 games it can add up.

I think:
If the team wants him to get lower, they need to get him the ball sooner and more decisively so the defender doesn't have as much opportunity to keep pushing him.

Victor needs to study and copy LMA's midrange game. If he had LMA's midrange game he would be unstoppable.

LMA's midrange was predicated on him being an immovable object.
He'd put a defender on his back, catch the ball and turn around.
Wemby can't do that because even guards push him around, meaning he'd take those turnaround shots off balance, no chance to be as efficent.
