Player The Refurbished Budget Wine Cellar of Julian Champagnie

Congratulations on the 3 point shooting record Julian!

It’s safe to say that the Spurs lost this game without Champ’s heroic game
Yeah I’ll take the win but not really sustainable one guy hitting 11 and the rest of the team going 3-21.

Concerning part is most of the other guys misses weren’t really close. A lot of heavy back rimmed 3’s especially from Castle, Harper, Fox who went 1-14 combined.

Hopefully the Spurs get an extension done with Jules sooner over later, will be a fascinating deal for him.

Champ leveled up in an instant last night. It was on pretty big stage (NYE against NYC in front of the home crowd), and he was directly responsible for staving off what would have been an ugly three game losing streak. He's all but secured a bigger deal, and something in the $35/40M range. I'm really happy for him.

If he does the same in a playoff game, we're all buying his jersey.

What kind of an extension would be fair are you all thinking?
We decline his option for the next season and pay him the same money over 4 instead of 3 years. Front-load it for cap flexibility.
I'm sure he'd be happy with that because he's making next to nothing by NBA standards and surely wants to get guaranteed money asap because role players are always one injury away from being out of the league.

I'd say something like 38/4 would be fair, 11/10/9/8 per season.

Posted it some time ago, my idea is that we keep both Champ and Barnes for $22M they're making now, just split it in Champs favor.
I'd offer Barnes either a 20/2 or 21/3 deal, depending on how he finishes the season.

Then get another legit wing with $20M we'll free up by getting rid of Sochan and Olynyk.

Champs popping the champagne last night. Congrats to him. Here’s hoping some of him rubs off on bryant.

I remember Pop requesting, cajoling, demanding Julian keep putting them up when we first picked him up from Philly. He was reluctant and would freeze when he missed. And now he's letting loose.

this summer should be a quick 4-40 million extension done. no reason to pass up cap flexibility this offseason with Olynyk coming off the books as well.

If Julian can play half as good as thing consistently, then I'd be super happy to give him that extension.

Can his brother shoot the three? Maybe getting the two of them on the same team could sort of power each other up and approximate something at least 1/2 of this on a consistent basis.

Edit : I should probably retract what I said about looking to throw Julian in a trade with Jeremy Sochan if it returns a good player. I was wrong on that one and I don't think the Spurs can get a better player than Julian for what he makes.
If he just lets it fly and plays/shoots with the same confidence he did last night, I'll trust him more. I just want him to stop stepping out of bounds and be more aware on attention to detail.

I don’t remember when his contract is up, but he’s getting snatched when that time comes. A prototype 3&D with good size and plays on a (now) winning team.

We know it’s not all roses but his profile is going to get him paid.
