Player The Lifelong Residency of the Ever-Important Heart and Soul of the Spurs, Keldon Johnson

People wanted to scrap this core for years, and keeping them together and letting them experience what its like to win has been really valuable. It's not that Vassell and Keldon were great before - or that they are great now (we'll see how good they end up being) - but ultimately their contracts and keeping them around and giving them time to learn has cost the Spurs absolutely nothing and in the end it might be the great move to build what is possibly the best locker room in the NBA. And honestly, that's worth building!!!

They've played a pretty easy schedule so far and they still have yet to play a complete game but it does seem like they might be on the verge of turning a corner and it makes me really happy to see this for all of them but ofr KJ especially. The guy bleeds silver and black and I love it.
And not for nothing but I think this is really valuable for Wemby. I think he LOVES the lockeroom and if at the end of the day that dude retires a lifelong Spur like our prior Hall of Famers then I think this will have played a role. Pop was a bad coach for a while now, but he was never wrong that culture mattered.

Keldon is one of those guys who does these stupid things on court that makes you want to rip his head out, but you just can’t stay mad at him because he just loves the team so much. That child like enthusiasm is so endearing.

everyone says he’s been bought into the bench role this whole time but last year he was doing main character shit constantly and just played by himself whenever he was in the game.

This is what being bought into looks like. You don’t decide before you cross half court that this is your possession. He’s now working with the flow of the game much better.

Also not a better start learning Chinese report some were hoping for.
If he's going to be Chief Creative Officer of QD Sports... he probably better start learning at least a little Chinese, tbh

He's so important. His good start of the season will help grow his confidence

I take the few dumb plays here and there bc he outweigh them with his hustle on both ends.

If he can work on getting a reliable catch and shoot 3pt...... watch!

Yeah, great start to the season for him. He will make bad plays here and there but he isn't a complete liability like last year. Putting weight back on helped him too because it allows him to make use of his skill of offensive rebounding.

This feels sustainable tbh. His shot isn’t going to come around. Not with those mechanics. But he’s got his role locked in and it fits his skillset perfectly. And really…I’ll pay a bit above the MLE for this on his next deal. He’s looking like a true 6th man. And not a 12th man you’re forced to play at 6. Just keep getting those boards, man.

The rebounding is a revelation.
His shooting probably won’t stay at 60% fg and 40% 3pt all year, but if he keeps rebounding this way he’ll remain extremely valuable as a 6th man.
Keldon was the heart and soul of the team last night

Anyone notice last night how Keldon had two bags of ice on his knees in the second quarter? Hopefully it's nothing.

Kobe was doing that all the time, I think that this is just for faster recovery

Both the best and worst case scenarios have him out of here on his next deal. He’s not going to be a MLE guy because his counting stats will convince some GM’s that he’s worth a chance. And you can’t just roll back 17+ mill for someone who’s gonna be your 8th/9th guy once the roster is fleshed out.

In the meantime I guess you enjoy the show. But also, he has a pattern of doing well when the competition level is low. I don’t think this is really much different from last season for him, other than being surrounded by a more organized team.
Except he was fantastic and a big reason they beat the Rockets.

Keldon has finally matured and settled. It was always said if he could settle, focus he would be a damn good player and he is.

He’s honestly right now if you combined 99 Mario Elie and 2002 Malik Rose into one guy.

Hope he keeps it up.

Well yeah I can’t really stick with my point. He decided he’s not the most important person on the team this season. Wish the clues were more apparent to him like they were with the rest of the world but better late than never.

Keep him around as a 6/7. Pay him MLE when the time comes. If he doesn’t back slide into main character things.
