Player The Layne Staley Depression-Laden Foxhole of De'Aaron Martez Fox

He's the same player he's always been, I posted the shot distribution stats a couple of weeks back.

And it's not like he has that much space to operate when he often shares the floor with at least 2 bad shooters.

If Castle and Harper prove to be 25% max extension worthy, that is.
Castle's contract will be up for renewal in the summer of 27 and he has a lot to improve to deserve it. At this moment I don't see Castle deserving more than 20-25 millions a year. Obviously, he still has 1.5 years to improve

I really like De'Aaron Fox's game, and I like him as a person, but it looks like that max contract is just too much for him.

the value of Fox is that he’s supernaturally fast and uses it as an advantage.

But lately he hasn’t been using his speed. He’s just been a shifty jump shooter. I’m not that into a shifty jump shooter.

Not sure why he and Harper seem out of shape or just less fundamentally athletic right now. But it’s a little bit of a problem.

My man Foxxxxxyyyy is quietly becoming a leader of our beloved Spurs team! Liking it so much >>

Fox is playing completely fine he's just featured less than he was in the past. Its Jan, its a long season, this is completely fine. But otherwise his numbers are fine and in line with his best seasons except he's shooting at a better clip.

Time for the harsh truth: Save for the stretch without Wemby, Fox is overpaid for what he is now before even that albatross-looking extension kicks in..

A guard, in his prime, on that type of money who can't give you 20-pts a night in an era of basketball marked by offense inflation is a borderline negative asset.

Said it before, even a 30 year-old Aldridge was more consistently reliable than him when we got him..

We acquired a score-first lead guard, gave him a max, and then both changed his role and drastically reduced his usage. What we’re seeing is predictable.

So, if this is how we planned on playing him, then acquiring him and then maxing him was a massive mistake. This is also what people should keep in mind when they talk about TMIII. There is no point in paying a big price to acquire thee borderline All-Star guys when all you’re going to do is neuter them.

too many excuses being made for Fox. he’s also a lazy rebounder and defender this year, which seems to be a team wide issue but it’s something you’d expect your max guy to lead by example & something that shouldn’t be impacted by how he’s used.

this is why we shouldn’t get guys who entered their “prime” in a shit organizations. happened with LMA (beta, sulker) and derozan (muh mental health). you’ll never wash the loser stink off them.

Just like I wouldn’t chose you to write something sane and rational, I wouldn’t pick Fox to play the role we’re playing him in. It’s not an excuse, it’s a choice the Spurs made and it was a poor one. The list of players I would have acquired to play off-ball SG ahead of Fox is long. Why the Spurs chose this route, I do not know.

Maybe this is the Spurs' way to try and get Fox to ask for a trade? Maybe they're playing him out of position to frustrate him or something, or maybe Fox got the bag and doesn't care about where he's played. I don't know. All I know is, he's gotta bring it way more consistently.

I've been saying it. The dude straight up is not worth half of a max, and the max hasn't even kicked in yet. We have three more years of this shit and he's going to stymie Harper's development by stealing money. He's small, not a good distributing point guard, falls asleep on defense, he's easily bricked up by competent defenders and isn't capable of taking over games, not even close.

My biggest fear is that we won't be able to dump him in a year or two, and that's looking likely. Who wants this kind of player anymore? Why the hell did we pay him the max?

People need to realize that Fox can't break down defenders anymore, and that's why he has to play off-ball. Anyone with length, he goes nowhere. It's aimless dribbling into a wall.

Well that’s simply not true. Don’t just make up shit. He can get by defenders with ease. Unfortunately, shit coach has a non-offense in place that doesn’t take advantage of Fox’s abilities. Why is Fox playing off the ball? So fucking stupid
