Player The Layne Staley Depression-Laden Foxhole of De'Aaron Martez Fox

In my opinion, the flaw in your line of thinking is that you seem to expect the Spurs' FO to basically "win" every deal/trade/transaction. But that expectation, to me, is not only unrealistic, it's also kind of unnecessary. A lot of trades and deals in the NBA work in a checks and balances kind of way. Any organisation will always have to gauge what they want to achieve with a transaction (be it a trade, drafting or handing out contracts and extensions) and balance that with opportunity costs that will arise in trying to achieve said goal. I think that the so-called winners and losers of trades, for example, are often much less clear-cut than a lot of people make them out to be.
Anyway, long story short, "winning" a deal/trade/transaction in the short term shouldn't be the ultimate goal - making your team better or putting your franchise in a position to be able to make it better down the road should be the goal.
It’s not really about that at all tbh…winning a trade is subjective. It’s about process for me. Not resting on laurels and thinking things are good enough so you can take foot off gas.

It’s not about trades only. It’s about draft. G-league and end of bench rosters. All phases.

A Klutch GM was gonna pay a Klutch player, conflict of interest obviously but i guess that doesn't exist in the NBA.
This is something that isn’t spoken about enough imo.

Isn’t B Wright a Klutch guy.. so is Mitch Johnson.. so is DeAron Fox etc. definitely feels like the Spurs have been infested by the Klutch/Rich Paul/LeBron cancer.

Fox's reputation obviously isn't in shambles the way Young's and Morant's are, but unlike them he makes the max long term, has similar shooting and defensive concerns and is the worst play maker of the bunch.

It's not going to be easy to trade him and it's probably going to have to be a salary dump when the time comes.

In the meantime, it'd be nice if he could play his actual position again.

When Castle is crapping the bed with turnovers, Fox should be the primary ball handler. He's the mid range guy we need with Devin out but he doesn't have the ball in his hands enough to affect the game. He'll never approach anywhere near the value of his contract if he continues play like a role playing shooting guard.

It’s hard not to love watching Fox play, and he’s been terrific overall.

But man, this is a 40 million dollar dude. 60 is crazy money given the landscape of the league and this team in particular. I think he’s so aesthetically pleasing that this isn’t really going to bug me too much. I watch sports to be entertained and he’s entertaining as shit. In a few years things are gonna get wonky though.

The cap keeps rising.
He'll go from 25% to 30% of the cap space with his extension.
And he'll be making $50M next season, not 60.

Mitch is doing him no favors with idiotic rotations, but fuck him, tbh.
Got blocked 3 times like a rookie, 0 FTA.

beating a dead horse here but really need more than 14 points from our highest paid player. it isn’t all on Mitch

Freaking overspent for a SG that his actual NBA position is at PG.

It's like they don't realize CP3 is gone. Hey guys, Chris Paul isn't holding you hostage anymore, you don't have to play De'Aaron at SG anymore.

He needs the ball in his hands a lot more. This playing and sitting BS has to stop. IDK if we're saving his higher usage for playoffs, but Fox needs to have almost as a high a usage as Wemby. Castle needs to be the third guy in line by usage, and it shouldn't be close either. Fox needs to build his rhythm early. When his usage is higher, his performance is better, his confidence is better, and his shooting is better.

I do wonder how he's going to fit in two years once Castle and Harper are more mature. That's a lot of money for a guy who may not even be in the starting lineup in 3 years. Depending on where the cap moves the juice may not be worth the squeeze.

Summer of 28, a little over two years,he’ll be flipped.

I dont like how reliant Fox is on jumpers. If this is who he is now, it’s an issue IMO. He’s obviously talented enough to still drop 30 point games; but the streakiness of the jump shooting is an issue and would like to see more aggression and consistent getting North/South on his own vs pulling up so much.

well there is apparently some mandate from the higher ups that castle must be the primary running the show, and thats generally going to make fox lean on the shot more than he has in the past

I mean I get some of that, but Ive watched and seen him settle when he had plenty of time to get going. Ive seen him drive just to kick it out too (which is fine sometimes of course). He has the handle and speed to when ball swings to him he should immediately get going north south IMO
