Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

A couple other teams (Bucks and Minny) are also sniffing around Trae. I don't see how Milwaukee can get it done, but Minnesota can. Unless the Hawks want Gobert or Randle the package would have to be centered around McDaniel who's kinda redundant with JJ. I wonder if we could get in on that using Olynyk and Sochan + maybe their 2026 back?
Wow, Trae and Dillingham on the same team. Imagine the defensive battles in practice.

lol, so what ARE hawks willing to trade? Dallas doesn’t want Trae.
they think they should be able to turn Trae into AD

Dallas doesnt want Trae, so they want a third team to give assets for Trae, that Dallas would accept for AD

I think Dilly would be part of the trade... its tough for Minnesota to match salaries..
Yup, this is where this idea dies: it'd take someone like Naz Reid, Gobert or Randle going out and Trae isn't worth it, maybe if there's a multiple team deal with other parts going to Minny as well but it would probably create more problems than it'd solve. I'm very skeptical of this scenario.

Practice?!?!? Heck, just imagine the battles in the weight room. Whoever can lift the bar first wins.

It can be done with McDaniel, Conley, Dilly, and another smaller salary... leaving Reid, Gobert, and Randle in place...

McDaniels is even less likely to be moved than any of the players I mentioned: he's 25, signed long term, their top wing defender and shooting almost 42% from 3. I think it's fair to say he's A LOT more important for their playoff success than Trae would be. I don't see any world where they part with Jaden McDaniels for Trae.

Well maybe the reports of their interest are bogus.... but if they aren't they'd have to include one of those guys...

While standing pat is fine for Spurs to finish the season, it is looking more and more like they will a quite big issue for next season: they won't have a starting PF.

Now the question is: Would it be easier to fix at this trade deadline or next summer?

At this point Barnes is not a reliable starter IMO. Spurs need to have an upgrade at starting PF heading into playoffs. I dont think that means you have to trade Barnes; I would like to have him in a bench role.

But any trade that can improve this team starts and stops with upgrading the PF spot with a 2-way player; someone that can credibly shoot 3s AND defend on perimeter (unlike Barnes at this stage).

So any framework for me mostly starts there and building a list of trade targets is tough when you start to dig into who *might* be available coupled with cost.

Trey Murphy - obvious perfect fit. Contract solid and age perfect. Is he actually available? Not sure. Cost would at least be salaries + the ATL firsts IMO (not sure that gets it done). Would you add in Carter Bryant with Sochan + KO + ATL swap + ATL 27?

Really wish PJ Washington was eligible to be moved. I think he would be a tremendous fit. But hes not.

John Collins? He’s still shooting solid from 3 and definitely provides more athleticism and defensive upside vs Barnes. Is he available with LAC playing better?

I highly doubt ATL would do this, but would they part with Okongwu if SA gave them their picks (swap + 27) back? They get full control of their own draft which would be enticing Im sure.

Noah Clowney from BKY is very interesting to me. He’s breaking out in a big way and I think would be a very nice get.

Salary wise, I think the only way you can even remotely make TMIII work is if you send out Vassell for him (and it still becomes a problem in his last year which is the first year of Castle's extension), in which case I'm not sure how much of an upgrade you've really made... you've really just traded Vassell for a taller version of Vassell... and at what cost?

As the Founding Member of the TMIII2SA Community Organization, I hate that I have to be such a downer on him at this stage.

I'm going to throw this out there, not as a real suggestion but just a conversation starter for a potential "all-in" move. I made this a 3-way trade for simplicity but it could be two separate trades.

I just threw a bunch of picks on here to illustrate the point... those could be reworked. Send CB to one of these teams if you want.

I don’t think keeping Dev and trading for Murphy is an issue salary wise right now. Spurs are making the move for this year first and foremost in my mind. Then in off season after playoffs they can decide if they need to move Dev or Keldon or even Fox and replenish draft capital as well.

I think it’s more a matter of cost and if NO is actually open to moving him.

I think the TM + Lauri move would present the cap problems you are talking about. If you need to move Dev to get Murphy in your mind, hows that any different than HB+KO+Sochan for Lauri with Lauri’s money on the books?

Not saying Im against it or anything, but that salary issue in that deal is way more of an issue than just doing the Murphy deal at his level of salary while keeping Dev

The TMIII + Lauri hypothetical most definitely creates cap problems, no mistake about it :st-lol: But that would be an "all-in" move that I just threw out for fun. Wasn't meant to be an example of what you can do to avoid cap problems.

We have a good thread about future cap situation. There is definitely going to be a problem when Castle's extension kicks in.

There'd be a lot of shuffling in a couple years, but if healthy that team wins two titles before it happens...

33% from 3....3 boards per game.... .8 blks
His 8.1% TRB% would rank him 12th on our team, a smidge ahead of Dylan Harper. Yikes.

I (thankfully) do not watch a lot of Nets games... what's his appeal?

Random trade idea that would probably never happen but still fun to kick around.

Spurs get:
Herb Jones
Saddiq Bey
Kevon Looney

Pel Get:
Olynyk
Barnes
2026 Hawks pick swap top four protected.
Jazz second rounder in this years draft.
Refund on the Pels 2028 second round pick.

This deal would solve all of the front court issues for this season and next season. Herb Jones in the starting lineup with Bey as a lethal bench scoring option, Looney solves the third string C issues. All of their contracts expire after next season so long term cap space would be untouched.

Starting Five:
Fox
Dev
Castle
Jones
Wemby

Bench:
Harper
Champ
Keldon
Bey
Kornet with Looney as the third stringer

What's up with his rebounding?

How is his defense?
I think hes better than Barnes. He’s not a “size” guy so, like Barnes, he wont be more useful against bigs or anything, but I do think hes got more perimeter upside. But it’s more “potential” at this stage still defensively with flashes than something I say you can bank on. BKY defense has been pretty good lately and hes definitely playing a role in that.

Rebounding was better in college I think, but dont think hes terrible. Feels like more of an effort thing due to him expanding offensive game.

His appeal is hes young, ascending very well on offense and more versatile there than Barnes or KO or Sochan. While still maintaining solid defensive ability and his cost should be notably cheaper than most other options discussed.

Sure - but I dont think it’s an “issue” with regard to doing a Murphy trade without Dev now. That problem can be addressed in off season if need be pretty easily IMO and I’d rather keep Dev + get Murphy for this run. If you have to trade Dev later? You can do that.
