Game Thread Spurs @ Heat (Wed 10/8/25) [6:30PM CDT]

Someone needs to fill minutes with the rotation guys only playing 15 to 22 min.

Dont make the mistake of taking much away from preseason. No one that is guaranteed to be on the team is putting a whole lot into any defense right now. Everyone is going 3/4 speed to get ramped up.
Yeah I hear ya. I know the roster is full of guys who aren't even gonna make the team. What people seem to be missing is the larger picture with Ingram. I'm glad he's at the end of the preseason rotation. I'll be happier when the Spurs decide that he's not worth keeping around.

We been so starved for wins the last 4 years we need to take them where we can get them.

I bought out the champagne when we beat that chinese team in the first preseason game
I'm still celebrating that Denver win that cost them playoff position. I think that was year before last.

He’s on a two way, so he’ll be kept around…in Austin.

I hope Wemby watches how silly he looked getting blocked by ware and decides to lay off the flopping this season. He could learn how to draw ticky tacky, but real, fouls. That would be useful. But he doesn’t need to do the embarrassing stuff.

I still watch the Wemby barrage in that game at least once a month

Still get chills when Sean says "another one" soon as it leaves Victor hands.

Nah. He needs to flop. Shai literally won an MVP doing it. When you don't you just get hammered and fouled with no calls.

for me the one i go back to was the first true wemby eruption moment. his first preseason

If I were a Miami fan, I’d be distraught. Spo wanted this one to the point of leaving two rotation players in until the buzzer, and not only could they not hold the lead, they gave up one to us, and lost to our 16-18 players, the 3 two ways, plus one rookie and a fossil.

But Devin initiating the offense shouldnt happen at all this season. And from a development point of view, he needs to practice being exclusively off ball because he has not a god damn clue about how to help this team right now. Pop disagrees and has communicated as such to Mitch, I’m sure.
I agree with all points here. I'm hoping they are giving him some work at initiating to give him a better idea of how to contribute, because he seems like he doesn't understand the offense.

My question remains…what is the offense?

I’m not sure what the scheme is. Are we moving the ball to create open shots like Indiana and Boston? Are we doing a point center thing like Denver? Is this more like OKC and NYK with heliocentric ball dominant stars that everyone else warps around?

I guess none of us know, since we don’t know how Fox and Wemby play together. But what we do know is that Devin is the 5th most important initiator on this team and arguably the most critical catch and shoot threat. So sure…let’s have him do initiation. Also a great way for him to stay healthy.

I want the answers as much as the next guy, but I think a bit more patience is required since we have major pieces out right now, and a 4th who (for better or worse) will likely get significant minutes and a 5th who might also be a fairly significant contributor who haven't played yet.

Flagler doesnt look too bad either, hes got a good shot and plays decent defense. OKC knows how to find them too.

Don’t overthink things. Those players are bringing the ball up because our top 3 totally redundant PGs are all out.

I'd be persuaded if they only just started doing it this game. They've been using Keldon like this for a while.

We'll be 1/3 the way into the season and still wanting answers. I'm just hoping by the end of the season we're in the playoffs and at least know who should be here and who should be sent on. Or even better have known early enough to make the move at the deadline. They need to really figure things out in year 3 of Wembanyama.

You don't have to know what the Spurs' specific offensive scheme is to see that Vassell doesn't understand it. He isn't in the right spots, he doesn't make the right reads, and he doesn't take the right shots. Victor had a higher basketball IQ in his first game.

Well, to be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the Spurs' offensive scheme. The play calling is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical buckets, most of the schemes will go over a typical viewer's head.....

Guys, i want to have a motto, like the ones you ahve below your names...how pls

That's reasonable, but Vassell looks the most lost, despite having a lot of experience. He should understand it better than a typical viewer.

Vassell just looks like a very streaky basketball player. When he's on he can be a 20+ pt guy with barely passable defense. When he's off he's a brick laying turnstile that loses games.

IMO he's a tank piece and he has the next few months to prove otherwise or they should move him.
