This wasn’t a game like the other where we just plainly beat ourselves all game (but fuck yeah that Vassell screw-up in the end was bad). The Warriors have personnel that can shut down perimeter players. Exactly the type I’ve been saying the team needs - and none of them are tall forwards that this forum drool over. You literally have the most pessimistic view imaginable on him. I’m saying give him some rope and let’s see what happens? Not unreasonable. Some coaches have to work their way up. Some coaches inherit great teams. Pop inherited a great team. Hell, Pat Riley was doing commentary, became an assistant and then inherited a great team. Let’s just give it some patience.

1st 3PM is poor defense but also a textbook Draymond moving screen/NFL block where he screens Fox and then turns and moves backwards while continuing to screen Fox as he’s moving backwards. Basically what Draymond has made a living off doing. Low IQ defense by Castle and Wemby both standing next to each other at the free throw line none of them jump out to Curry to contest the 3.

2nd 3PM he comes off a screen and backhands Castle in the face who instead of playing through it grabs his face. Curry gets a wide open 3, Castle gets a bit of a semi contest from behind but no where near enough. Really poor defense by Kornet staying 5 feet behind the 3 point line guarding Payton instead of jumping out to Curry.

3rd 3PM Spurs just fall asleep off a centre court tip and let Curry walk into a wide open 25 footer.

4th 3PM another Draymond moving screen special where he wraps up Vassell in a body lock straight jacket move. Wemby bad defense Curry fakes a drive and for some reason Wemby spins away from him towards the basket with his back to Steph and Steph steps back for a semi contested 3.

5th 3PM poor defense by Spurs. Vassell get absolutely caught in cement trying to get around basic Butler screen, Kornet playing way too low about 5 feet inside the 3 point line and Curry walks into an open 3.

6th 3PM bad defense by Spurs. Absolute brain dead play between two of our worst defenders in Fox and Keldon who both run away from Curry to the screener Horford. Wide open 3.

7th 3PM. Poor defense by Spurs. Fox follows Curry over a screen doesn’t bother to contest, Wemby stays 5 feet inside 3 point line instead of coming out to Curry.

8th 3PM. Poor defense by Fox falls asleep standing next to Curry on the 3 point line while Payton has the ball. Simple head fake gets Fox to jump out of position, one dribble wide open 3.

No doubt this was some generational shot making and spamming by Curry, but some really really low IQ defense by the Spurs.

When a guy goes for 45 on you 2 nights earlier and beats you by himself, letting him do it again to the tune of 49 points and not trapping or double teaming until the last 2 minutes is some absolute god tier shit coaching tbh.

Any future matchups against the Warriors I’d like to see Sochan play small ball 5 instead of Kornet. Curry is just a horrific matchup for Kornet, multiple Curry 3’s due to Kornet being 5 feet behind the 3 point line guarding Curry on a switch/drop coverage. I assume because he is worried about Curry going around him.

I think the Warriors might be the only matchup where I’d prefer Sochan over Kornet at the 5.

I have been saying for the last two years we play atrocious 3 point perimeter defense. I dont know what these bastards teach in practice.

This isn't rocket science, head coach is a complex job that requires to fail again and again to learn, like most jobs but this one even more bc it has so many aspects, Xs and Os being just a tiny part of it. You need charisma, psychology, internal and external communication, "been there done that" etc Mitch has none of those

If you've been in a locker room in your life you know how important for the coach to have his players ears, not when everything is fine, but in time of crisis. How do you think player are looking at a coach who has no experiences at the highest level neither as a coach nor as a player?
CP was older than Mitch and did whatever he wanted to stat padd and Fox has 10x more experience than him and will never look up to him.

This is the highest level of sports and The Spurs organization thought it'd make sense to take this insane risk.

Take it as a sign of respect. I was at the game, and the crowd was clearly in his head. He was gesturing to the crowd every time he made a shot or free throw.

This. And don't get me wrong. I don't want Mitch to fail but, under normal non-Spurs Family circumstances, Mitch would have been picked off the Spurs with an opportunity to be a head coach for a team without playoff aspirations. Maybe a Hornets or Wizards type of situation where he could cut his teeth and the league would find it whether he has it or not to coach a playoff bound team. Instead, Pop put his name on the list and he got past the velvet rope and we have, in effect since he used Pop's system last year, a rookie coach trying to manage a generational player and overall young squad. Growing together is great when you don't have potential playoff talent but when you have a Wemby, who wants to win now, maybe you shouldn't take the keys to the car from grandpa and hand them to a sixteen year old.
