Game Thread Spurs (62-19)vs Nuggets (53-28) (Sunday 4/12/26) [7:30PM CDT]

It’s not bout avoiding Denver for me. I think Minnesota will be just as difficult a series. It’s about putting Denver in OKCs side of the bracket so the road to the WCF will be tougher for them. I would rather them play Denver in a long tough series than Houston in an easier shorter series
For what it's worth, the Spurs have gone from a 1.5 point favorite early yesterday to a 10.5 point favorite today.

Let’s be clear, the Nuggets are doing all this late season crap because they WANT to play the Spurs in the second round.

Spurs need to be like:
What?
Sitting everyone in order to lose the game and drop to 4th means they want the Spurs?

Does LA have any incentive to win? They could lose on purpose just to spite us, right?

Spurs win + LA has to win vs. Utah
Spurs are a 10.5 point favorite and the Lakers are a 14.5 point favorite.

Also, in the East, Miami is a 4.5 point favorite over Atlanta, Toronto is a 23.5 point favorite over Brooklyn and Orlando is a 13.5 point favorite over Boston, all of which would be good results.

If the Lakers lose to Utah, they have to play OKC in the 2nd Round rather than us. Plus, Utah is tied in a tank battle with Sac for worst record in the West.

Without Doncic and Reaves, the Lakers aren't in position to concern themselves with the WCSF. They've got to focus solely on the easiest WCQF matchup, which is still the Rockets; so it'd be beneficial for them to drop to 4.

Either way they're not winning a round though, so the Jazz have greater incentive to lose and are running a glorified G-League rotation.

It’s not a streak for Barnes, it would be a record for the team - the first time a team has had 8 double digits scorers (with the minimum 58 games played for stats to count on the leaderboard) for the season.

The Spurs may or may not care, but this would be a team record, not just “Barnes’ stats”
It would also be a free agency talking point: wouldn't you rather go to a team where the ball is shared and you get opportunities to develop and playing time if you do?

After all, a team with the second best record in the league is starting an undrafted forward, has an undrafted center backing up the DPOY, an undrafted PG leading the third team and plenty of former players still in the league, doing well, and making a good living after passing through the Spurs system.

A win here and a Laker win would be ideal.. Forcing OKC to play Denver in round 2 is a very good thing.. OKC does NOT want to play them..

If Barnes gets 17, he averages double digits in scoring, giving us a record 8 players.

It is a very rare opportunity for this record. I say Barnes should go for it if we don't care about Denver getting 3rd or 4th seed

But if Spurs are serious about sending Denver to the 4th seed then it might not be viable.

Rooting for the Lakers feels disgusting tbh. Sacreligious even. But it'd be awesome if they could pull off a W tonight and the Spurs take care of the Nuggs. Easier path for us and that's all that matters atp.
I feel the same and had been meaning to post something similar. I cant stand the Lakers so wanting them to win gives me that little throw up feeling in my mouth.
