Game Thread Spurs (39-16) vs Kings (12-45) (Sat 02/21/26) [7:00 PM CST]

He's so washed. I at least expected a 3rd string player that can fill in when needed but he's super unplayable.
Our 3rd stringers are useless, tbh..Spurs need to clear the deck there in the offseason. Way too many zombies and non-NBA players getting an undeserved roster spot on a Top 4 team in the league

Was at the game tonight. As an Austinite with 2 small kids it’s really great to have these games every year. Wouldn’t make it down to SA currently.

Was sitting behind the basket close to the spurs bench. A few observations:

- Crowd was bumpin tonight. Dunno what the complaints about PHO were, but tonight we brought it. Maybe bc it’s Saturday.
- Vic left the bench twice tonight, I think first time to pee and second time after collision with DeRozan to his left shoulder. Was rotating it on the bench for a while and then left. You can feel the crowd knows where he is at all times, big sigh of relief both times he came back.
- you can really feel the chemistry from these guys watching them on the bench. Sure lots of pre game handshakes, high fives during the game. But the real sauce is the way they communicate freely. Felt like zero egos, zero statuses across the board. Everyone could say what’s on their mind with no resistance or judgement. Not always the case for an NBA bench.
- the windmill dunk was absolutely bonkers. Dylan’s was also mad.
- as a Longhorn was a fun surprise to see Vic rocking the burnt orange Nikes. Why not!
- last but not least. Why Maxime, why? He was making all the right moves. Scoring in the paint and securing rebounds. He would have been a really good 2nd string C for us, or an incredible 3rd string center. Alas, we move on.

Go Spurs Go!

I was at the game and sat behind the Kings bench. Here are some of my observations.

- Sweeney was very animated and leading the huddles in the first part of timeouts in the 4th quarter while Mitch was on the floor with the other coaches. Seems like Sean has a lot of energy and passion. The D noticeably tightened in the 4th.

- Fox was extremely aggressive with Westbrook, seemed personal. Also, Fox is so crazy quick and fast. You heard it here first.

- Monk tried to sub himself in during the 2nd quarter heater Sac went on. Christie motioned for him to go back to the bench. Monk was yelling at Christie and told him he was fucking stupid while yapping away at the end of the bench.

- Got some small bits of intel. They have high hopes for Plumlee and he’s two weeks away from being ready. Mason is a high character guy and should be on the playoff roster. Also, Biyombo is the greatest dude and very valuable locker room guy.

- Lastly, the Spurs had to get rid of the “kids” and that the improved skill and IQ forced this to happen. The direct quote was “teams don’t win with players like that.” I’ll leave it to you to figure out who the kids were.

When this team locks in on D pretty fun to see. Now we need to put Detroit on notice.

May we ask who gave that "direct quote" on the "kids"? :st-lol:

Maxime Raynaud was there for the taking in the Second Round.

That was an unforced error.

'22-'23 was a legit tank ..'23-'24 was an accidental one (Tre out and Sochan PG experiment sank the team in November); Spurs were better than their final 22-60 record. But It was all worth it.

You got it turned around. It wasn't Sochan as point, but that they had no other options. Literally had nobody to handle the ball at that point.

This remains one of the most stunning stats of Duncan era Spurs (1997-2016): only lost more than 4 straight games once in 20 years (6 involving rest to end the 2010-11 season)

All signs point to him wanting to play in Sacramento.
Agreed. This was the word around that draft. Raynaud is French but committed to Stanford in 2021 and I think he has been living in Northern California since then and fell in love with the area or something (can't blame him).

Word was he wanted to be picked by SAC to stay in that region which would change how teams like San Antonio approached drafting him to respect his wishes. That's different context and not a missed scout imho but I agree with everyone who wanted him for SA he looked promising at the time and has been solid.

A shame....

Based on the french question to Wemby...it seems like Wemby would love Raynaud to be on the same team with him. Nonetheless, Wemby is still proud that Raynaud managed to carve out a starting role and take advantage of all the playing time given to him.

French part Journalist: Victor, you know Maxime (Raynaud) better than anyone. You've played together, against each other, but you'd never faced him in the NBA. What do you think of the level he's reached, his progress, and playing against him? Did you offer him any advice on his development, having gone through the same thing as a rookie?

Victor: My first impression is one of immense pride. I think the last time we played against each other was in 2018, it was the French U15 Championship, the final. It's been a while. Yes, I know him well. I would have loved for us to be on the same team, but when I see his performances, I feel incredibly proud. The main reason is that he's had opportunities, and he's taken them all, so it's an excellent start to his career. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the future holds. I consider it a great opportunity to have him in my conference.

Journalist: Just aside from basketball, what made you get along so well so quickly? What do you like about him?

Victor: Of course, it's a question of mentality. Maxime is extremely bright, one of the brightest people I know. Yes, he's a very good friend of mine.Journalist: I hear he's amazing at chess; he likes to tell everyone he beat you Victor: I think he's a bit better than me, but does he beat me? No, I don't think so. We've only played once, I believe.

the craziest thing to me was that we ran a hammer play. I haven't seen that in years.

Also seems like the bench defense is a bit iffy with Keldon and Barnes at the forward spots.
