Game Thread Spurs (31-14) vs Pelicans (11-36) (Sun 1/25/26) [6:00PM CDT]

Mitch is continuing Pop's trend of allowing players to develop bad habits tbh.
Yeah looks like it.

From having self less teams for years, we are now at Thibs level BB offensively. Its pretty nauseating to watch spurs basketball Offensively now a days.

We need a coach who's going to yell at these fuckers, like old pop, not last decade pop. Are we letting Wemby do whatever he wants or are we going to coach him. Naw bitch, get your ass away from the 3 point line and into the paint.
And develop a hook shot, for fuck’s sake.

Almost all of the offensive woes go away if they stop these lazy 15 seconds left three pointers that have no chance of going in.

You’d think after a few failed tries they’d wanna work it around and I dunno, maybe get it in the paint?

Ugh back to the days of Brictor jacking up double digit threes. Get in the fucking high post, you're not Steph Curry. I know everybody wants to be Kevin Durant but there is only one.

Steph thinks he’s SGA, the refs don’t.

He’s got to develop the mid-range game and be serviceable at the 3-Point line. That will unlock the drives and foul line.

Would be nice to see Mitch fired when this team fails to make the playoffs but it'll never happen unfortunately. This team is the Thunder of 15 years ago tbh.

PATFO: This is not who we are. Mitch is pretty much guarantee a job for at least next 5 seasons tbh. Unless somehow Vic come out and threaten to demand a trade or fire Mitch tbh

The first mavs game feels like a fever dream. Thought we would be in for an all timer season

It was the most flukiest game on hindsight tbh :st-lol:

Wemby had like a season worth of highlight plays simply from that game. Every media people was raising the monks, KG, Hakeem, Vic coming back with a vengeance after blood clot....now they are all silent now

Yeah that was a fluke game from victor. I think he can do it again if he’s 3pt is falling.

Mitch put Castle back in and the Spurs spiraled again.

Stephon -19 on the night

Fucking Mitch has no flexibility or balls tbh.

He will almost always use the starting lineup to close the game regardless who is playing well or who is bricking shots

I recalled Vic only took two 3s that game. He displayed all the offensive move, footwork in the post, driving to the rim from 3 pts line etc.

It was a complete display of his max potential on the offensive end all in one game tbh. Don't think it will ever be replicated.

I think it is the type of game Lebron in his early 20s would win by himself inspite of the coach and shitty teammates..Wemby's offense is not there yet (will it ever be?) to do the carrying on a consistent basis.
Timmy's offense was of methodical variety, and so more repeatable in output, even if not explosive in nature. The lack of a reliable go-to-move for Wemby is the real culprit here..
Tim offensively had great fundamentals, face up game, footwork along with have a great post up game that he could rely on consistently. The biggest things Victor lacks that Tim had is great footwork and post up game. I don't think he's capable of having a great post up game like Tim did which exacerbates his struggles when his jump shot isn't falling. He also gets punked a lot by other teams when they play physical with him which wasn't the case with Tim since Tim was also a very physical player and knew how to even throw elbows when teams got dirty with him.

My fear is during the playoffs is that a team will rough up Victor and if his shot is not falling then he will struggle offensively during games. He's going to have the same struggles other jump shooting bigmen had such as KG, Robinson when his jumpshot doesn't go down.

At least MIN lost today too. Hope Denver loses their next game too. OKC lost today, but not like we're catching them. Really thought DV coming back meant this game was a lock. Wemby go back to Hakeem for training wtf is this pussy shit.

Agree, which is why I think they need to be looking at a Dirk-type offensive attack. Simplify at the high-post so he can read the defense, take a shot over the top or drive after a shot fake or close out. Opens up high-post passing, as well.

its like Mitch has rotations on a script that he cant deviate from. there have been stretches where he rides the hot hand... most notably in another pelicans game when he let harper close and harper made the game winning layup.

but for the most part, nah. he just predetermines lineups and is inflexible. doesnt read the game, doesnt adjust.

the sidelining of Fox as an off-ball player is making the trade and extension catastrophic. i cant remember the last game i watched where Castle's defense felt like it was swinging the game for us

did not watch the game but it seems I missed out on getting fuel for my Castle hate ...

Just some food for thought. Let me get this out of the way first, Castle is my fav player but he is just in a huge slump at this point 😣. I was in denial for several games and finally came to the realization he’s hurting us at times. I was very encouraged for a few possessions at the start of the game with Fox initiating and the Spurs look better in the first few minutes. Then it went south quickly. I thought Castle had some really good passes as secondary playmaker without turnovers in the beginning. In fact, I thought he was very measured going into the lane and dishing out instead of forcing his way a few times. Hopefully that’s a coaching point going forward.

It’s pretty obvious the Spurs success coincides with their shooting three at a decent clip. We were horrific again there tonight, and the worst of the season at the stripe. The latter point is unacceptable for sure. FT’s cost us a game basically. My wife looked at me as I was yelling WTF for fucking 4 FT’s missed in a row by Victor and KJ. TBH, I’m not hopeful at the deadline of solving the perimeter shooting issue. Although I have thought about going to church and praying (🤣).

Not even going to talk about Victor…. if he sucks we’re going to suck (no shit Sherlock). And yes, he sucked ass tonight. Corndog was thoroughly outplay as well. I would be surprised if any of the starters were graded over a two.

Wtf was the coaching tap thinking when that second unit brought them back and then totally despairingly keeping them on the bench. Absolutely gave me a headache. A bright spot, CB has given me some hope the last two or three games. Has really brought the energy and played very very well off the bench. He still needs some run in the G league though.

The Spurs have had all kind of injuries and it has mucked up the consistency with the core 💯. Fox, Harper, Vic and the latest with Devon, It is getting a little tiresome with the injury management minutes. I get it, but it’s certainly put a strain on the rotation. I do think this has caused up-and-down play the last 10 to 15 games.

The Spurs need a good 10-20 game stretch with everyone healthy to gain a knowledge of what we can do, right? I don’t give a crap if OKC wins or loses. Nobody’s catching them. It would be nice to stay in that two or three seed just because it would be such an accomplishment. However, the first round is going to be tough for San Antonio regardless. First playoff in quite a while ,and there’s going to be definitely some inexperience playing a role there. We haven’t matched up well against the Suns nor T-pups and Denver is going to be tough as crap. H-town might be a tossup, but Victor has not had great success to date. Fuck the Lakers. San Antonio has lost games. We all think they should’ve won. The saving grace is there has been some other top teams losing in the west as well. I’m not giving up on San Antonio finishing on a positive on the season, but they definitely need to get their shit together ASAP.

Yes...Mitch has a stretches where he rides the hot hand and the results proved themselves.

Then there are times he get cute and try super weird lineup and also keep using the starting lineup for closing the game. :st-lol:

MATFO must be very high on Castle's potential to keep letting him playing on-ball. Fox is paid as a max player based on his on-ball performance with the Kings....but now playing off-ball is really hurting his rhythm and contributions.
