Game Thread Spurs (29-13) vs Jazz (14-28) (Mon 1/19/26) [4:00PM CDT]

Some nice captures from the game

Edit: hmm these are videos on my phone and they only posted stills for some reason...that's annoying :st-lol:

Should have been a Victor block, Harper dunk, and Champ/Bryant alley oops. I'll try to figure it out later

The rookies really shined tonight. Wemby was automatic.

Credit to Utah for hanging around even though they had no business doing so. With Markkanen and Sensabaugh this game would have been a lot more interesting...

Happy to see Carter have some statistically effective minutes even if its against Utah. Kid needs a confidence boost and to see his hard work behind the scenes translate to positive on court moments.

Must have been a super-fun game to be at!

All games we win are fun to be at. I used to have a season ticket package and always picked the games I thought we had the best chance and got rid of games that looked like we were going to get murdered. That was a few years back and I don't feel that way about this team. I think we have a chance we any team. So far the better the team the better we play!

Solid win, wish we could have cut down the minutes of the main guys a bit more but Utah did not allow that. Or would you have pulled the core way earlier - like 6 minutes before the end?

Great game by our two rookies. Screaming out loud during the two dunks in a row sequence. Good stuff.

On to Houston. :st-flag: :st-flag::st-flag:

I looked it up after he said it during the postgame interview. Rashard did get minutes his second year because I vaguely remember RL playing back then (He got around 20mpg his second year - that's not nothing, he did also play in all 82 games too in that season. He likely just wasn't good enough to earn more minutes, wasn't from a lack of opportunity), Carter's also not going to get between 35-39 minutes at any point with the Spurs, which is what Rashard got from his third year onward. Not even one of the best players on the planet is getting anywhere near those minutes with the Spurs. And to top it off, I thought Rashard was much older than he is. Seems he was washed up not long after 31. I thought he was like 37 when he was playing for the Heat before he retired. Rashard's probably not the best example to follow if he wants to be a top 5 player in the NBA. He needs to be looking more at (I hate to say his name) Kawhi.

I wonder what Mitch and Will Hardy were talking about at the end of the game. Maybe Mitch was like "Look, I'll happily go back to Assistant Coach if you come over to us" ...

Or maybe he needs to focus on being a competent role player first, and look at role players he should model himself after - like Keldon. I hate that he has lofty goals like this, it means that when it comes to second by second playing time - he’s thinking of doing the star play vs the fundamental one. It’s probably why he misses so many dunks. Just try to be good and consistent first before dreaming to be great.

Great point on the missed dunks. If this is his mindset (like you've said), maybe he is overlooking the simple stuff and he should probably not be focused on trying to be a superstar level player. I think you could be right that he should focus on the fundamental play. That might be one reason he's all over the place blowing dunks and making bad plays. Seems like he's going for the home run, instead of the more solid play.

Yeah it’s probably a lot of that. But he’s beefing extremely vanilla dunks. Even last night on his first one. Why did he barely get it in? This is a very peculiar situation.
