Game Thread Spurs (23-8) vs Cavs (17-16) (Mon 12/29/25) [7:00 PM CDT]

The biggest issue isn't that our shooters couldn't hit shots, but that they got so few wide open looks.
Tyson won the game with two wide open corner 3s.
How many of those did our shooters get? We can't expect them to keep hitting contested shots when they don't get any early and open looks.

Been saying it, Wembyball isn't winning ball tbh. He needs to take a backseat on the offense and focus on defense. Honestly might be best to bring him back off the bench.
Shit is looking so awkward, tbh.. Team overall offense have functioned so much better without him..Biggest challenge for this team and Wemby personally is how he gets maximized on that end.

Its a long long nba season…

I am enjoying the shit out of it- the past month where our road warriors destroyed the nba and the alleged okc dynasty…
And

Followed it up by coming back down to earth and those bumps and bruises and thousands and thousands of miles are kicking them in their young asses…

This is the nba and they are still overachieving…

The great news is that in a couple of months when the challenge is there- the boys will find their warrior mentality.

Great time to be a spurs fan.

Humbling loss. Cavs got rolling there and Spurs couldn't seem to contain the fire. There was a stretch of 4th where Spurs tried to get reestablished and Cavs had an answer almost each time.

Backseat to whom? I thought it was Fox but he's retreating to the usual Fox
The Fox/Castle/Vassell/Barnes/Kornet lineup is honestly better than the sum of its parts tbh; there's a lot of chemistry there. That said, went too far with the benching Wemby comment. He needs to learn to play within the system, but its been an issue for three years now.

Didn't Barnes get one right after that he bricked?

I had hoped the absence of Fox was the difference, apparently not. Just an abysmal shooting performance. Not gonna win any games shooting 22% from 3 and 38% from the field. Hopefully the last game of 2025 goes better🫣

This all comes down to shooting. We came into the season with questions about shooting and spacing with this team.

Through the first 1/4 of the season it wasn't an issue. Fox, Barnes, Champ and Vassell were all knocking down open 3s and making teams pay.

That opens up the driving lanes for Castle and Harper.

Recently those shooters arent knocking down their 3s. They are slumping but also likely reverting back to the mean of what they should be.

I think the hot start has masked the needs of the team a bit. We still need a legit knockdown shooter and I also still think we need a little more size in the front court.

I'm at a loss why they don't establish him in the high post more. Every time Wemby attacks on the dribble from the three point line an angel gets deported.

22% from 3 in both these losses… ouch

This is the weakness coming into the season coming home to roost…

Didn't Barnes get one right after that he bricked?
He did.
And had one in the first half.
Champ got no wide open looks other than the one he made.
Vassell had a couple, most were contested.

A team with two bigs and two midget guards manages to protect both the paint and the corners while we get shit on by Allen and allow like a dozen uncontested corner 3s.
And we still played that dumb drop coverage, it's just that Garland couldn't punish it.
