Game Thread Spurs (23-8) vs Cavs (17-16) (Mon 12/29/25) [7:00 PM CDT]

Idk man, we gave up a lot of offensive rebounds tonight. Second chance points etc. It’s a recurring theme.

We give up the corner 3 by design and are not even able to rebound the ball? That’s puzzling.
Execution has sucked the last two nights. Mitch needs to kick some ass in practice tomorrow.

Back to back epic stat lines from Wemby and we haven’t looked worse all season tbh

Considering the recent games against OKC, and the last game against Utah, this was the worst loss of the season to me. Careless, reckless and sloppy plays throughout along with missed dunks, this game pissed me off more than any this season. Gotta brush it off and hope they’re ready against the Knicks on Wednesday.

I know Wemby wasn’t top notch, but they played with 2 bigs inside.

Wemby plays sound technique defensively or for O boards, which is he locks his guy inside. Now its other player’s responsibility to come and guard 2nd big and missing whole time.

Yes.
Either the team doesn't know how to get him the ball in winning positions or he doesn't want to do it.
I have no way of knowing but I think its probably some of both . I think Wemby needs a young Pop getting on his ass like Pop did with Duncan or like Avery with David Robinson. Sorta kidding but would Coach CP3 fit that bill?

2nd seed in the West is prime for the taking for anyone now with Jokic going down.

Spurs need to play with desperation on Wednesday tbh. If they don't this season could derail in a hurry with the upcoming schedule.
Think that game might make or break their season..Kinda look like a classic young team that got too high and started reading their own press clippings; got punked and are yet to find their way back.
Our best player is culprit in this; he is a hype merchant by excellence.

The offense looks like an open gym at the Y. There’s no purpose. They get down to 4 seconds and realize they gotta put up something. That or they do the most haphazard iso play you’ve ever seen.

Spurs -18 in the 3 point game.

Made up some of it with free throws, but couldn’t convert at 2 point range either.

Castle, Barnes, Vassell, Fox combined for 3-20 from 3.

Anyway, it’s better to be exposed a few times now well before the Feb deadline so Wright and the coaching staff can decide if they are willing to go into the playoffs with this group and hope they don’t get exposed with their lack of shooting and defense on the wings, or if they want to do something about it since the West is pretty wide open and the match up with the Thunder is good.

Anyone know the stats from Barnes and Champs 3 point shooting last like 6-8 games? Honestly feels like both are in the 20s now.

Steph is just forcing so much dumb stuff now he needs to come back down to earth a bit

Harper also seems to be hitting some struggles, but he gets a pass for being a rook

Team continues to be horrendous at defending the 3 ball and no changes have been made to support this.

No idea what Mitch was thinking tonight with the substitution timings. Was also unable to get any sort of gameplan or offense running, so much hero ball and dribbling into nothing

Losing a game at home with this much of a FT advantage and their All NBA player having a terrible game is so bad

Rough night

Been saying it, Wembyball isn't winning ball tbh. He needs to take a backseat on the offense and focus on defense. Honestly might be best to bring him back off the bench.
Backseat to whom? I thought it was Fox but he's retreating to the usual Fox

What's really disgusting is Cleveland didn't even really play well. They kind of stunk it up tonight too, shooting 31% from the three point line and 43% overall.

CLE went on a scorching run in the 4th quarter and never looked back. We could not crack into the lead much at all. Felt like a lid was on the rim and our guys were timid.
