Game Thread Spurs (23-7) vs Jazz (10-19) (Sat 12/27/25) [7:00 PM CDT]

yeah already established we can win in OKC. i know the goal is always to win chip, but getting to 2nd round would be a great season. weve made a big jump just hope injuries dont continue to plague us
exactly. We can't win it all with the current roster, too many holes (lack of real starting PF, not consistent 3-point shooting, no 3rd string center...)

On another note, watching the Mitch presser, I like what he's said about the team's shortcomings and focusing on the many areas of improvement still left. He's got the right mindset, at least.

Didn't hear anybody ask him about the Sochan minutes :st-lol:
Reporters share the "that's not who we are" sentiment by avoiding uncomfortable questions :st-lol:

lol, our beat writers would never question that or why the heck he decided to stop momentum.

It's still a young team, after all. Jazz slinging fire, Fox out, inevitable hangover from OKC mini series rush, post holiday grogginess. All probably play a factor. But these are the games we need to win if we truly have reached the next level.

The Spurs Media are admitted Sochan fan boys (even my favorite Spurs podcast, Silver & Black Coffee Hour, say they are So-Stans). Of course they aren’t going to ask the obvious question of “Mitch, why do you continue to fuck shit up by playing this turd?”

OKC probably gonna start another 15 straight wins. But I don't think we should chase the 1st seed.
I gotta disagree there. This team has minimal playoff experience and they probably should be trying to get every advantage they can in seeding and go all out for it. A matchup with a battle tested Nuggets, Wolves, or Thunder team without homecourt is going to be a hell of a mountain to climb for a team of playoff virgins.

Timberwolves are a team we're trying not to become with their awful effort in a lot of games.
Nuggets are down 3 starters.
We were down the leader of our offense and missing two other starters as well (Barnes and Vassell. Hope they are okay, could have used them tonight)

Good loss imo. Quick reality check for the group after an awesome couple of weeks. Partly due to an adrenaline dump having just played OKC 3 times and a cup Final game against NY in the space of two weeks, partly due to no Fox, partly due to the team having some real weaknesses still (3 point defense, 3 point shooting, forward position weakness) where B Wright will have to decide if he wants to fix before the playoffs or see how this group goes in the playoffs and risk getting these weaknesses exposed and fixing them in the off season.

Im not really worried as much as I am annoyed. Win and avenge against Cleveland and Knicks and all is right with the world.

Big fan of Castle, but he needs to have more of a plan than "i'm going straight into my defender and hoping it works out". Tough seeing him air ball 8 footers, too.

Beyond that, seeing early Sochan and CB minutes told me exactly how concerned Mitch was with getting out of there with a win tonight.

I am fine with some CB mins. He also contributed during the 4Q run.

But Mitch just cannot add in Sochan and Waters onto the floor with CB 🤦‍♂️

thoughts have not changed through the win streak. this team will only be a serious contender with upgrades at SF and PF.

champ and barnes are both defensive liabilities and stopped reliably hitting shots weeks ago. fox being out completely exposed that there aren't enough perimeter shooters to keep up with a dynamite offense like utah.

they won't be moved at the deadline because THAT'S NOT WHO WE ARE and LOYALTY DAMNIT but yeah they're both completely cooked and need to be in bench roles next season or gone entirely.

Spurs actually had a chance but they turn the ball over and over again that helpthe jazz hold on until that dagger 3 by markannen.

After going back and watching parts of the game again, the more I lay blame on Mitch. He clearly didn't take the Jazz seriously tonight. Its one thing for the players to do that but an NBA HC should know better.

When they tied the game, I thought they were going to win, but the lack of consistent defensive strategy and focus was a killer. That has to improve as the season goes on if they are true championship contenders. In crunch time, you must have the ability to get stops, and stay disciplined for multiple possessions. there needs to be a serious emphasis on improving guarding 3 point shots. That has to happen.
