Game Thread Spurs (2-0) vs Nets (0-2) (Sun 10/26/25) [1:00 PM CDT]

I wonder do we work on securing rebounds cause the Spurs have way more tip drill rebounds in their games than other basketball games I watch.

I watched Denver and Phoenix last night and the overwhelming majority of rebounds are just grabbed by somebody. Just grabbed with 2 hands like normal. But in Spurs games it seems like every 3rd or 4th rebound attempt is tipped multiple times. It's pretty shocking they have been an above average fast break team so far with them not being able to just secure rebounds at a consistent rate.
we've outrebounded our opponents in every game upto now and that's with an undersized PF. It's great gang rebounding. The main reason why we were so bad last season, was that nobody boxed out. No idea why, but Corliss Williamson changed that.

Crazy thing is that it felt like a rather pedestrian game for wemby..I mean he didn’t even score a single FG in the first quarter …and still ends up with an impressive stat line on top of a dominant defensive performance

Harper is amazing. Such poise while handling the ball, efforts on defense, sticks to gameplan and is world class as a finisher. Now if the kid is even league average in shooting..he can threaten to be an All Star. Bright future ahead for this kid.
I remember all the hype about the Spurs trading up to get Wemby and Scoot and instead they have Wemby and three PGs not only better than Scoot, but on par with Scoot's allstar draft projections.

Castle has brain fog today and last game but he will be ok. But I don't think if he's natural PG. More like SG, maybe even undersized SF and secondary ball handler. But it's ok . We have Fox and Dylan!

So, we had a huge lead. We blew it in less than a Q. Then, we fought back and closed strong for the win.

This was a growth moment for the team. It will pay dividends as the season goes on.
We did that ish a ton in 2002-2003

Harper just needs to be the pg until Fox domes back. Castle is a turnover machine with ball. Another 5 today. Mitch gotta be aggressive and make the move. Castle can play 2 or 3 less ball dominant. Less turnovers. Also dude all of a sudden trash at the line. Can’t be primary ball handler.

Castle, I think is a wing player ... adequate as PG but better as secondary ball handler.
I mean that's what his role is gonna be here but I think he projects as a very good PG had the Spurs not gotten Fox for a song and drafted Harper. He will still get a ton of chances to initiate the offense.

Barnes is cooked, methinks. Spurs need Sochan on the floor as PF. And maybe Sean Marks can do the Spurs a solid in Feb by trading Michael Porter Jr for Barnes, Olynyk and a FRP (Hawks swap?)
Gotta give him more than 3 games to get warmed up. He's a vet with a lot of miles and is playing a lesser role on offense this season. He hasn't been bad, just not shooting as well as he needs to and needs to crisp up defensively.

First and foremost shout out to Mitch Johnson for playing Harper 29 minutes and sticking with him during clutch time. I love Pop but his ass would have pulled the rookie as soon as he gained any momentum/confidence and buried him on the bench to teach him a lesson.
Nah...Pop would want to win this game this game and benching Harper would not be a winning move. #1390

This. He can handle the ball fine but all these struggles in the press will be solved when Fox returns. Castle will greatly benefit from not having to be on ball dominant.

Barnes will have good games and bad but not someone that should be starting next to Vic every game.

I'd say the first 3 games are showing they don't have a 3 pg team. They have Fox and Harper at pg and Castle as a combo SG/SF.

Which is ideal for the team. The next thing to see is if either Fox or Harper can slide to the 2 effectively for a Fox, Harper, and Castle back court/SF combo. I could see that being the main close out lineup with Wemby and a PF or Kornet for most games if it proves to work. Harper showing he can defend the point and SG spots is big too.
