Game Thread Spurs (2-0) vs Nets (0-2) (Sun 10/26/25) [1:00 PM CDT]

Barnes will have good games and bad but not someone that should be starting next to Vic every game.
If he doesn't get going soon Sochan will get a chance to take his minutes.

Barnes, Champ, and Sochan have the same things asked of them this season. Hit open shots, rebound, and defend well. Whoever does those things the best will play the most.

Biyombo is deep bench, he's fine for that role. Especially when Olynyk gets back.

I don't know man. It used to be, but the league is so talented now and there's so many players unavailable at all times, that if you're a non tanking team, those guys have to be able to give you serviceable minutes.

This team reminds me of the 2003 spurs. Really good but really young. Many mistakes that are so preventable keep happening but once they realize what they need to do and simply execute it, they become difficult to defeat.

Easily lose this game last year. Glad to see us win even though so many problems are obvious

And btw.. Vassell and Johnson are forcing a lot of us (Keldon in my case) to eat crow. Good to see these two settle into contributing role players.
Agreed. In terms of potential, they can be starters on a bad team, but now as role players they're way above average.

That's what I was thinking after the first half: now we have a real team around Wemby that doesn't necessarily needs him to hang with opponents, and that makes all the difference.

Sure there's growing pains rn, start of the season, last game we had a big decision making issue, this game we had a field goal issue, but in the end we made up for it and still won. I'm confident it will get better in the next few games. We're better than that (as we showed in the first half).

I'd say the first 3 games are showing they don't have a 3 pg team. They have Fox and Harper at pg and Castle as a combo SG/SF.

Which is ideal for the team. The next thing to see is if either Fox or Harper can slide to the 2 effectively for a Fox, Harper, and Castle back court/SF combo. I could see that being the main close out lineup with Wemby and a PF or Kornet for most games if it proves to work. Harper showing he can defend the point and SG spots is big too.
Devin will be in the mix for closing lineup minutes as well. Fox plus two of Harper/Castle/Vassell depending on match up and who is having a good game

Keldon thought last season was about him and even though he was on the bench he didn’t play like he was supposed to be a bench guy and it caused issues.

He seems very much bought in now.

@Neuromancer anything you see that we dont see on live tv?
Not really. Castle played like ass, Wemby bricking FTs and some shots he normally makes, Barnes being fuckin invisible, team kinda cratered without Kornet backing up Victor, etc. I'm sure y'all saw the same stuff I did

Arena was hyped af though. Been awhile since I remember such a packed and loud crowd

Jackals weren't terrible, my daughter seemed to find them entertaining so that was a win. I did see one lady bitching at the usher that they were too loud and sitting next to them was awful and ruining her experience :st-lol:
Were they doing the “Car-ter Bry-ant” chant or was that the broader crowd? Because I didn’t hate that.

That is a good comparison.. This was a win that showed character.. Played a horrible 2nd half but pulled it together in the end.. A very good sign.

Spurs need a starting 4 badly. Barnes is not it.
I could tell by the first game of the preseason that he was completely washed. He was really struggling to get through screens and any contact stopped him dead in his tracks.

Ah well he got us a pick swap with one of the worst ran teams in the league so he has served his purpose. We basically got 2 sochans for at least this season though.

When do we see Fox that is going to help a lot I think Castle is better as a secondary ball handler and not the main ball handler he is doing ok filling in but I feel he is better as the SG role and handling the ball some times. I do love Castle and Harpers future projections if they keep getting better

Awesome games from Dylan and Keldon tbh.

I like how Devin has started the season as well. Good shot selection and solid defense.
