Game Thread Spurs (18-7) vs Wizards (4-20) (Thu 12/18/25) [7:00PM CDT]

I'm not dogging on Barnes because at times he can be a special player, and he has been nothing but professional and good for the Spurs. However, he has been known to go on some of the coldest streaks in history, particularly in big moments . Here are a couple of examples:

Key Details from June 16, 2016:
  • Event: NBA Finals Game 6.
  • Teams: Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers.
  • Barnes' Performance: 0 points, 0-8 FG, 0-5 3PT, 2 fouls in 16 minutes.
  • Context: This followed a poor Game 5 where he also struggled (2-14 FG), leading to significant criticism and discussion about his future and potential max contract.
  • Outcome: The Cavaliers won convincingly, 115-101, setting up the dramatic Game 7.
Game 7:

He ends his streak of 14 consecutive misses by hitting a 3, but then goes on to miss his next 5 shots.

A leopard never changes his spots. we can’t really be too angry at Barnes (I know I’ve talked my fair share in the heat of the moment), this is just who he is. It’s up to MATFO to beef up our PF position if we want to be serious contenders

They should and I think they will address that this season. This team is ready to contend NOW. I suspect they will pickup another backup PF/C either from abroad or the waivers later.

ah yes, you are not dogging on Barnes......but obviously you try pretty hard to do so. yes, he had some bad games 10 years !!! ago. so what. he still was part of a championship team and he did help them to get there.
failed in the E8 some 14 years ago???? jesus, why didn't you bring up some highschool games to make your point.

Dylan Harper man, this kids the best rookie outside of Wemby since what Duncan? Lmao. I mean this kid is way more polished and naturally basketball skilled than even TP was as rookie. And we’re not talking like Harper is some older rookie the kids 19 lol.

Same feeling here.....i was skeptical at the beginning....but im firmly in the Harper fans club now

Spurs are reaching the point of excellent balance on offense where we might see a lot of games where we don't have multiple, or maybe even a single, 20 point scorer but still look good on offense. This seemed to happen a lot in the glory days, and it's a good sign.
:st-lol: Revival of the beautiful basketball where some autism mute guy can average 17 pts and win Finals MVP

Good that he has his slump now rather than in the playoffs. If his slump continues, then other players just have to step up

On the frivolous side, both these teams need to immediately retire these heinous uniforms. Not only were they individually bad, but both at the same time looked God awful.

Spurs: what’s so bad with the White home uniforms tbh?

I want to add Steph in there too. He was pretty good as a rookie and had way worse talent around him. Steph had to step in and basically be the Spurs' second best player his rookie season. What Dylan's doing it great, but I feel like you gotta give Stephon props too as he came into a tough situation and had to help turn around the team's culture back to winning. I don't know why Steph keeps getting slighted. He's done a lot for the team and is a big part to putting us back towards winning again. He's a bigtime competitor and winning player.
That’s lost on a lot of people. We weren’t as good a team last year, and then Victor and Fox went down. He was the lead character for half a season.

His 3-point average falls to 34% in the playoffs. It‘s been a consistent thing throughout his entire career

He’s already strong at this age shoving the likes of Bagley on his way to the rim. I mean Spurs have two bully guards in the future.

It’s actually a bad sign that the first time games start to mean something, the Emirates Cup, he goes M.I.A.

At least now Mitch can note Grandpa's tendencies and be decisive putting him to end of bench in the playoffs. No need to waste playing time on him and expecting a miracle

CB and Tatum have very opposite brains and will never be asked to do similar things.

He is tall and athletic though - correct.

I don't trust him in big games nor am I surprised a 32yo vet has ups and downs in a season, he was and is perfect for what we need now but the timing would be perfect to package him before the trade deadline considering his expiring contract's attractiveness.

Barnes and Sochan is already 25M expiring.
