Game Thread Spurs (17-7) vs Thunder (24-1) (Sat 12/13/25) [8:00PM CDT]

I'm excited to see the Castle-SGA undercard these next couple games - Castle's been pretty savvy about recognizing how building up your reputation league-wide can influence officiating in your favor and tailoring your game to take advantage of that officiating. His strength-quickness combo is in theory a good counter against SGA if he's allowed to get away with physical defense, and he might have more luck in playing physical than other "non-star" defensive specialists in this department.

Either way, it'll be good for him to get reps in against SGA, who's the king of sucking off refs in public for favorable officiating bias, if for no other reason than to pick up some pointers on using the dark arts
Back in March, he scored 32 against OKC, and Shae scored 30, with castle as the primary. SGA wasn’t guarding him.

Damn Christmas party tonight so not sure I’ll be able to watch much of the game. Might be going to the shitter to watch on my phone if it gets into crunch time :st-lol:

So what are the matchups going to be? My guess is:

Wemby - Chet
Castle - SGA
Devin - J-Dub
Barnes - Hartenstein
Fox - Dort

I think Wembanyama - Hartenstein and Barnes - Holmgren.

If Wembanyama were going to play his usual minutes, the Thunder would probably mostly play one big and have Williams be his primary defender.

I have one on Friday when we play the Hawks. Called today and said I would come early and pay my respects, but have a conflict.

Harper is another big. They have a big 3. We have a big 4.
People are being slow on the uptake on this one but Harper would be a 20-10 guy on a less stacked roster as the Spurs.

Our Happy learned to putt moment would be if and when Castle can guard SGA well because he’s going to give him all he can handle on the other end. Last year Castle made too many rookie mistakes to be guarding SGA.

Will be interesting to see these two teams play on a neutral court...pretty rare you get to see teams do that outside of preseason (which doesn't really count).

The atmosphere should be electric for the prime time game based on how it looks for the warmup match.

Not sure what to think of the crowd having constant blue light on them. It looks cool just wonder if it’s an irritant to either the crowd or players.

I feel the same way...it's always just kinda boring. Brunson is a stud but nothing exciting or flashy about his game.

You just know they’re never gonna win. Last year they had a shot to take the east but of course they lose to Indiana.

Key to the game is whether the refs are going to allow OKC to set their normal baseline of playing super hard on D and getting away with fouls while calling touch fouls against us and putting our guys in foul trouble (see the first time we played the Lakers this year).

Get prepared to be very annoyed by Shai's chicken wing push offs.

OKC's style of play is dominant but not very attractive to watch a lot of times, whereas unlike some of our past title winning teams we are playing a very appealing, modern style of play with our attacking guards and historically entertaining superstar.

Damn I'm pumped for this game. I hope we come out strong and the stage isn't too big for us and more than anything I hope the refs don't unnecessarily turn the spotlight on them.

Brunson's constant foul baiting bugs the shit out of me. I feel like even the way he styles his hair is based around foul baiting. His braids exaggerate the way he throws his head back to try to draw fouls.

i think it is likely that refing will be heavily in our favour, the league wants wemby to be the next best thing and okc is way too boring to root for.

Just beat me to it @OK Computer. Definitely has a noticeable limp here though. Hopefully he's just fucking around or just walking strangely cause he hasn't had that limp in recent days.

Just posted the same in the Wemby thread... that definitely doesn't look like a guy at 100%

Honestly looks like the kind of walk of someone who just worked out for the first time in awhile and is sore from lactic acid build up

I'm not expecting a win, especially with this being the big 4's first game playing together. Expecting some growing pains from them, and a little rust from Wemby. Just hoping they keep it semi-close and entertaining.
