Game Thread Spurs (17-7) vs Thunder (24-1) (Sat 12/13/25) [8:00PM CDT]

I don’t think beating okc over this next three game series is as important as taking in how good of a team they are up against and measuring themselves against them.

They have to understand how good they have to become to challenge them. As far as I’m concerned this is just practice before they inevitably meet them in the playoffs.

It’s a great test and they will hopefully realize how far they have yet to come even though they have travelled so far this year. Okc is at a whole ‘nuther level. It’s not time to rise it’s time to learn.

Wemby > Chet
Castle = SGA
Fox = what’s his name Williams, Doe, Smith, something like that

Kornet to Hartenstein is close enough for govt work. Double bigs favors the Spurs.

Harper > rest of OKC

As much room as we have to improve and players we are missing, it boggles my mind how a team with SGA and nothing much else special could go 24-1.
Castle = SGA is a joke take ...

Also J Dub has performed in the NBA Finals ... actually improved during a series. So putting any of our young Spurs above him is premature as well.

Also the Thunder play nearly perfect team defense, totally irrelevant who is on the court. Something these Spurs will never accomplish because their IQ is not high enough to communicate well and get the rotations and double teams right.

Still the Spurs have a chance to win tonight because its the NBA and it seems the Spurs can surprise anybody. But your takes on the quality of OKC are laughable.

Harper? The Z-Factor?
Sorry I forgot Harper. Spurs always attacking with a ball handler is big plus. I’d give this game to us because OKC has more to lose.

OKC maybe returning Champions but Spurs will have a brighter future with our star caliber 3-guards plus superstar Wemby. It’s a matter of fortifying the role players to the last man

Denver wasn't mistake free and almost beat then.

Pacers weren't mistake free and almost beat them.

OKC is not some boogeyman team they just play way harder than everyone else and care more about regular season victories than everyone else.
This. We are actually gonna be the boogeyman.

more like:

Wemby = SGA
Fox = J-Dub
Chet > Castle

and then their wings are better than ours and Hartenstein is better than Kornet. We got Harper, but they got Mitchell. OKC is definitely better on paper at this point.

You could even make a case that J-Dub is better than Fox cause he made All-NBA last season, but I'd say they are close in talent.

I might be under stating OKC skill a little because I think that it also being done to da Spurs.

I guess you missed the last game where Castle > Doncic. Which makes Castle = SGA a totally reasonable expectation if he played at the level he just did the PREVIOUS GAME.

You are correct though I think OKC is highly overrated. I think SGA is decent and the rest of their players I could take or leave. Would I trade Williams for Vassell or Sochan for Holmgren, sure. But that’s about the extent I like their players. Dort/Caruso are simply scrubs in my world view.

Wanna talk matchups?

Wemby and Fox are the only proven and consistent high end players Spurs have right now.
I'm a believer that both Castle and Harper will be among the best guards in the league within a couple of years, but let's not get ahead of ourselves about their current level.

Castle was amazing against the Lakers, but just because he hit a couple of uncontested 3pts against their horrible defense it doesn't mean he's still not a liability in that regard until he proves he can consistently make open shots.
There's a reason why he's at just 27% from 3pt this season. And 71% from the FT line.

Strangely enough, Harper is also at 27% from 3pt and 71% from the FT line.

Devin is still as streaky as ever. After the scorching hot first half in Cleveland, he's at 4-20 FG in 73 minutes of play. 4-20!!!
Champ is more consistent, but the two of them are both too weak defensively for what OKC do with their offense.

Barnes is obviously our steady veteran presence, but if OKC goes big, then he'll be on a big disadvantage defensively and I'm not sure he can punish Chet on the other end.
If OKC goes with Chet on Wemby and Hartenstein on Barnes, that's obviously a matchup that needs to be taken advantage of.

Obviously I'm not saying our team isn't good, it's looking better than anyone could've realistically hoped, but there's a long way between having a good start of the season and competing with the champs that happen to have the best start in league history.

Do I believe we can beat them tonight? Obviously, but losing is way more likely outcome. We need to have way more things to allign to win the game than they do.

Fair assessment I just feel confident we are a lot different animal then they have been feasting on. This game IS the NBA currently. The buzz is palpable…

if his man sags way off I’d love to see Harp cook them from midrange, if necessary. Curious about that part of his game.

Feel Spurs need to win 1 of these upcoming games against OKC just to show the league somebody can beat them..

Who are you referring to? Edit : I was on the other page, so I didn't see the answer above. If it's Ajay, apparently he played with Victor. That is one guy that is sucks that the Spurs missed out on since he's played with Vic.
yeah - thats him - i saw a few okc games and holee fuck - that dude comes in when SGA sits and they lose NOTHING!

I had never even heard of this - scrub - until i watched those games and out of nowhere they have a super sub at PG????

watch him tonite - i sure hope the spurs keep him in check...

I have a feeling the Spurs win tonight but the dismissing of OKC is pretty hilarious tbh 😂 they are above everyone in the NBA right now.

Harper is another big. They have a big 3. We have a big 4.

A few of us really liked Mitchell as a SRP prospect in his draft. I think @Ariel @mo7888 and myself were the three biggest proponents IIRC
I was in, I liked everything I saw but the Spurs are determined never to find another Manu in the second round ever again apparently.
oh btw

Fuck the thunder!
Don’t u mean thuck the Funder?
