Game Thread Spurs (17-7) vs Thunder (24-1) (Sat 12/13/25) [8:00PM CDT]

They're gonna win another championship this year, damn 7 game playoff format. The Spurs need to upgrade some positions to really be competitive, but hopefully we'll be there in a couple years.
What positions badly need upgrading? Spurs are very deep and talented. What they lack is experience in big games. And they need a consistency of Victor playing with them.

friendly reminder the Thunder are one of the most fraudulent champs of all time. Injury riddled playoff run (AG hamstring and Haliburton Achilles, either one prevents a championship run).

that fairy SGA bullshit can only really work in a fluke playoff run like that

“All time” team my fucking ass 😹😹😹😹🤡🤡
Great hot take! Was their all-time 82-game point differential fraudulent too? 68 wins was fraudulent? That's a lot of fraud. Or you don't know basketball very well.
Last yr they were one of the best regular season teams ever. Ever. As one of the youngest teams in the league. They are still pups, if you think that was a fraudulent championship you don't know basketball.
Injuries have and will always happen. Luck always factors in. They won, and they dominated the regular season as pups.

Their rivalry started in their U19 game. USA won France by 2 pts.
France was leading almost the entire game and Wemby was owning Chet.
But USA sent in a short fat ass forward in the 2nd half and Wemby was unable to stop and USA pull off the comeback win and Chet was named MVP.

Vic probably felt like the title and MVP got stolen from him
Chet competing with Vic for ROY also added fuel to the fire lol
There was also a story about Wemby and his mom running into Chet and Chet brought up the U19 win, which was Wemby's worst basketball experience ever. Seems like Wemby might have taken this personally maybe. I think he mostly just wants to show the world he is in a different league from Holmgren and make sure Holmgren knows it too.

The commentators are all impressed with Spurs youth and versatility, that they are very very good team NOW! I don’t doubt it.

Plus having this insane backcourt, it's like having Tony, Manu, and Alvin Robertson back with Spida, Dylan, and Steph.
I was so afraid Castle would be exposed this year and while I think he needs to seriously improve on turnovers the dude is 20!!!!! And gets to the rim at will and finishes just so fucking well while being great on d. All 3 of them plus Devin played huge rolea tonight. Man. We're so fucking lucky bro.

Hats off to OKC what a game and the thunder were great competitors. That was such an intense match up
As soon as Vic entered it felt like a playoff game moving forward, for both teams.
Absolutely great win, coming off a (lesser) great win.
Damn, ahead of schedule for sure. 59 win pace with tons of injuries. Damn.

i was wrong about mitch, they clearly had a gameplan for how to defend SGA. executed what they wanted. this team needed to know they belong in the championship convo. goes along away to building that mentality
If you reduce SGA to a mid range jump shooter and limit his play making OKC is sure to crumble.

Other thoughts:

Williams’ lack of size gets exposed against SAS which has been my knock on him all along.

Hartenstien + Chet two big lineup = YAWN

Harper not quite ready but watch out when he is

Vassell or KJ can each be more useful depending on the opponent.

Dort and especially Caruso can make some plays with their frenetic defense but they ain’t much on the other end. And if that’s their 4th and 5th best players that’s not very scary.

What an amazing game. OKC showed why they are the best team in the NBA by making the Spurs work on every possession while the Spurs showed why they are upto being the OKC kryptonite for the short, medium and long term.

I knew Wemby coming back will be a great impact but no one could have predicted a +22 in 21 minutes. Amazing defence in the paint, clutch shots snd just sheer dynamite, he was.

I have been telling the Devin haters here and ST that they should pipe down for quite sometime. He has now proven to be a big match player. Makes a whole lot of difference as a tough shots maker and a battler on defence.

Fox and Castle were amazing. The former, with his poise and experience and the latter with guts, fearlessness and strength. Castle was a beast on defense and the entire team played like a string on D. It was beautiful to watch. 2005-Spurs like.

Harper got a rough game but I think he broke his cherry finally by being very good on defense despite being manhandled by the OKC marauding defenders.

I knew Champs and Barnes wouldn't be fruitful in this game (check my pre game posts) but they too battled on defense. Keldon fought and got some useful rebounds while Kornet had a major block and tried hard on defense.

All in all it was an amazing team win with the difference maker being the Alien. All kudos to MATFO for making this happen.
