Game Thread Spurs (15-6) @ Cavs (13-10) (Fri 12/5/25) [6:30PM CDT]

Listening to lots of German NBA-related podcasts and by looking at the majority of the questions related to teams its definitely the Lakers and the Mavericks. Magic are catching on of course - all German Magic fans want to have Banchero gone  Spurs are mid-tier I guess. But am I not enough? :D
I‘m german as well. 🫡

If Kornet misses another 2 weeks the losses are going to pile up.

Cool avatar. It caught my attention, and then I look down and see the name DPG. Nice entrance. Did you know about this place, or just too busy to post?

Darn, just had a look, wouldn't mind getting him. I've always wanted a German player on the Spurs and this kid would fill a real position of need. Don't think we've ever had a German player on the Spurs, have they? Would be cool to have yet another player from a different country on the Spurs to make them an even more global team. Question for the German posters? Do the Spurs have many fans in Germany? I'm guessing a lot of them are Mavericks or Magic fans.
My man, you don‘t know about the magical time Uwe Blab played for the Spurs? Seven Games in the 89/90 season.
His 2.1ppg, 1.3rpg and 0.1a in are unforgettable… 😅

:st-bobo:

we even have the old cool ST emojis.. you gonna feel home. You were one of the last now we are complete and ready for the first PO run of the Spurs in a while
Im so pumped. It’s been very vindicating being someone that largely has stuck up for the FO and Wright to see it paying off. The funny part is even I ripped Wright and Spurs for years for dumb trades and called out bad moves and logic. But once I saw the ship turn? I could see the vision and they deserve a TON of credit for what they’ve done last few years. Been top notch front office again and we are seeing the results now.

I just cant f*cking wait to finally get Wemby + Fox + Castle + Harper all healthy together for the first time.

The question is has the ship turned because Pop finally realized it's time to let go?
Feels like both the front office and the coaching staff didn't have the freedom to do what they knew was necessary up until recently.
Do we get all these new assistants if Pop was still in charge?

Anyhow, no point in going back to ugly times when we're in a great position for the future.

All could be losses without Wemby and Kornet tbh.
i mean sure but id rather have games we have realistic shots of winning than having a gauntlet of games against WC contenders when we are as shorthanded as we are

True, though at this point the only WC contender we haven't faced is OKC and we haven't been close to healthy yet this season.

I dont think Pop was a major catalyst. Pop always held sway, but it’s been a group effort in FO for a long time and we saw much of the changes happen while Pop was still coaching. I think Pop should actually get some credit; had Mitch by his side, ok’d a lot of the deals knowing it would mean shorter term losing and still was clearly instrumental in getting Wemby wanting to be a Spur so badly.

Cavs are missing quite a few players even with Mobley playing (would be huge if hes out). But obviously so are Spurs and no Wemby/Kornet really sucks. I for one think/hope we see a lot more Sochan/Bryant instead of KO or BB.

Take the under on minutes B4 Olynk fouls out defending the paint.

Anyone saying a 3 guard lineup doesn’t work, we had a lineup with not even a legit sized PF running around out there much less a center last game.

3 quality guards is a must to me from a depth perspective.

If we can prevent a layup drill we will be ok. Fox is an expert bucket getter and nuisance foul drawer to anchor the first unit. Harper is a savant that can keep us in any game working off the bench to anchor the 2nd unit.

im not worried about BB getting too many minutes lol. i think Mitch realized just how cooked he is. the last time BB played any minutes of significance came against Miami when he played 7 minutes back on October 30th

since then he played 6 minutes in the first phoenix game on 11/2 (blowout, garbage minutes), less than 2 minutes in garbage time vs the kings on 11/16, and then less than 2 minutes in garbage time at the end of the wolves game on 11/30

imo its just a matter of time until he's waived... perhaps some small move at the deadline or in the buyout market, but clearly they dont really care for other guys hanging around like Bassey enough to cut bismack at this time

This feels like another game where we got better and the other team got worse. Similar to Orlando and several other recent wins.

Sochan about lost the last game for us. He is struggling horribly. It would be great to see him play a lot of minutes and get his confidence back. Not that I am optimistic at all about that anymore.

Kornet being out hurts. Wemby being out indefinitely is going to take its toll. Hope for the best tonight.

If Mobley plays Sochan needs to step up, especially on the boards. We’ll need a team approach to better rebounding.

I kind of look forward to the undersized Sochan pestering their bigs and seeing what happens. Heck, maybe even a fight will break out or something.

Not sure what Sochan you mean. 3 seasons of no hands, positioning, rim bounce awareness, or adequate size to be an effective rebounder.

I too will pray for a Christmas miracle in this regard though. KJ probably get more boards though than JS, sadly.

People automatically calling losses are lame. Yeah it’s gonna be tough without Luke. But this years Spurs are fighters. Should be a good game but if they do lose, oh well.

These injuries fucking suck though. Feel like we are one of the most injury prone teams. It’s amazing we only lost 6 times up till now.
