Game Thread Spurs (1-0) @ Pelicans (0-1) (Fri 10/24/25) [7:00 PM CDT]

9 offensive rebounds is obscene.

I was watching the Pel's telecast and one announcer kept saying they needed to "go at" Kornet, as if he was some sort of weak link defensively. Guy needs to read the scouting reports better. But this could be a huge advantage for the Spurs throughout the season-- teams thinking they must attack Kornet when Wemby is out, instead of relying on smart ball movement.
I watched it to, he was talking about Kornet not being able to switch. It was "go at Kornet" instead of "Barnes or Champ" so that they could get a small on Kornet not because Barnes/Champ are better defenders.

If the Spurs get either of them they can win a series tbh. They're fucked against OKC, Denver, or GS if they land any of them in the first round though.
OKC is the only team I'd say they're fucked against in a series. Victor has played some of the best games of his career against Jokic. Not saying I'd pick them to beat Denver or anything, but you always have a real chance in a series with a player like Victor. OKC is historically great though, you're not beating them in a series until Harper and Castle have improved more and maybe Fox gets back to being the shooter he was a couple years ago. Thankfully OKC isn't going to be able to pay Hartenstein nor Cason Wallace and is going to have to make a really hard decision between Dort vs Caruso + some extra money in the summer of 2027. This might be the last year they can keep Hartenstein, though I wouldn't be shocked to see them go into the second apron for one year in 26-27 by picking up their $28 million team option on him.

If this was Denver last year I'd agree, but now that they have depth I think they win it all this year. I also think we still haven't seen the best of Jokic yet.

After last year's playoffs I'm starting to have my doubts about OKC long-term. SGA/JDub will be an elite 1-2 punch but their role players left a lot to be desired imo. Sorber missing his rookie year will hurt them a lot. Its early but I'm not impressed with Chet either; looks like he hasn't taken the year three leap I was expecting. None of that may matter if they're gifted more high lottery picks in the next few years.

Is it even possible to have a better season than Jokic had last year? I don't doubt OKC in the slightest. SGA is that go and get shit done guy who can single handedly win you a game you have no business taking (see Game 4 of last year's Finals). They're deep, they have a strong frontcourt, they can shoot the three, and they have two ultra high end defensive stoppers in Dort and Caruso. They're nasty and without holes right now.

I had a conversation with a friend who's a big time Nuggets fan and he mentioned how Jokic always seems to find something new to add to his game each season. Not sure what he can add this year but its Jokic so I'll wait and see.

I don't doubt OKC this season, though I don't think they're without holes (tbf, haven't thought that ever). Their shooting can be suspect at times and I'm not as high on their roleplayers outside Caruso/Wallace/Hart as others. That said, I don't think the Spurs can beat them in a series this year or next unless Wemby goes God-mode four out of seven games. I do think they benefited avoiding the Dubs last year and Denver having zero depth.

Honestly, I'm worried GS manages to win this year and we'll have to hear that Curry is top 5 all time from casuals and media tbh.
