Game Thread Spurs (0-0) @ Mavericks (0-0) (Wed 10/22/25) [8:30PM CDT]

have watched all highlights like 50 times by now and still start to laugh at some of these moves by Wemby. he can dribble, drive and finish with either his left or his right hand ... smooth shit!

Bryant needs development though. I'm talking making the team a title favorite. Get a PF for 4 years who can start, then replace him with Bryant once he's there development wise.
We can’t even keep Fox for 4 years. Wemby starts getting paid in 20 months, likely at 30% of the cap. Our two young guards follow in 12 month intervals. The best thing would be to get a better option than Barnes on a less than MLE deal for 3 years. Even then,if CB develops,he gets paid at the same time as Harper.

Kyrie returning, Flagg settling in, and having Gafford unlike tonight, how well does Dallas stabilize what we saw tonight? I'm sure they improve some. They still seem flawed in roster construction. They play in the shadow of the Luka trade and it doesn't look good.
Fox returning, Harper settling in, and having Sochan & Olynyk unlike tonight, I think we will be fine against that Mavs team (sure, any given game they can beat us, but I don't think they become a better team than us after what we saw last night).

So this is where the real game thread was... I signed into SpursTalk like...

I'm not even worrying about salaries right now. They have 2 seasons before Wemby's max kicks in. If they can learn to consistently bring a lot of what they brought last night? They can contend. No one will want to deal with this for a 7 game series. The key is learning and developing that consistency as a team.

Even as good as they were they turned it over too much and were bad from the line. It ended up not mastering, but Castle and Harper combined for, I think, 9 turnovers. Wemby won't be that dialed in every game, but as a team if they can consistently defend and play solid team ball there's no one they can't beat.

harper's turnovers as a rookie making his debut against a long/athletic defense is not alarming. to be frank he seemed kinda jittery all game and just needed to settle down, im not very worried.

with Castle, i think his passing and playmaking stands out quite a bit in transition. thats when he's out there whipping those one hand passes to the opposite corner, its when he's hitting the lobs, and its when he's most often able to get downhill and score at the rim before the defense has had a chance to settle. in the half court as the primary ballhandler, its not surprising he would wind up with turnovers, as i really dont think thats where he's at his best. he can still make the odd play of course, that last dunk he had in half court was awesome.

but i think his passing as a connective piece is going to be better for us anyway, with Fox doing the heavy lifting to generate offense in the half court. Fox is a much better midrange player as well, which comes into play for the lead guard in half court sets.

Harper will be fine. Just saying even with a 33 pt blowout win on the road there's things to clean up. I really like that it seems Mitch has brought an intensity that is needed to mentally get these guys off of tank mode. They seemed hungry last night

Friendly warning: in the interest of not going down the same path as ST where it was actively repulsing some people away from the site... let's try to avoid using this word.

Many thanks.
Thanks for making that a priority. I left ST around 2011/2012 because things just seemed out of control and I didn't want to waste my time on such bad energy and hate.

The word is super harsh, if nothing else. To the degree that I can’t imagine anyone being discussed here worthy of being on the other end of it. Using it doesn’t make you a homophobe but it makes you an edge lord in this context.

I never thought about it, but I completely forgot Sean Sweeny was coaching in Dallas. You think he gave the Spurs some good insights to give the Spurs an edge, or would that not have made much of a difference?

I’d buy Wemby grew he’s got to be at least 7’-4.449” as he dunks without really jumping now.

I was half kidding when I posted it but I honestly thought Victor would come out strong and look to make a statement right away and he didn't disappoint
Good call. There was a point where he was at like 31/10 and I was satisfied but then he kept piling it on. Still can't believe what we witnessed last night sort of but it's a long season and I'm trying to keep things realistic.

It's crazy to think that in all likelihood this won't even be the best game we see from him this season. Dude really is an alien
