Game Thread Spurs (1-0) @ Pelicans (0-1) (Fri 10/24/25) [7:00 PM CDT]

Wemby lost his 3 pt and block streak
That's one I never cared about as I'm loving the way he's playing offensively now. Hakeem really created a monster by showing Vic it's cool to go in the paint and destroy your defender with footwork. We're starting to see Prime Victor at 21, can't help but be excited at that.

I have to stress. I’m very impressed with Wemby’s new strength. Last year Wemby would’ve folded on those Zion bumps. That additional 25 lbs muscle making a huge difference. Also impressed with his decision making with still zero turnovers, ball handling is much controlled shielding away from a defender poking it out, really a lot of developments over the summer getting stronger and improving his game. It’s scary to think of the finished product :st-hit:

Yup. Also he was going for the triple double in that 6th foul. If they didnt rob him of 1 block before he couldve slowed down a bit.

I think Vic cares abt these things

Fox will be tbe 2nd most important player on the team this season.

I know its been almost a decade, but we all remember the playoffs. Almost every game comes down 5 minutes left, you're somewhere within +- 8pts on the scoreboard, and you have to lock down and get the win. That's when Manu would take over. TP and Duncan would take over. And role players would step up to play their role in wins.

Fox is going to be the last 5 min facilitator along with Wemby. Castle will play off the ball. That's the best position for everyone.
I actually like Castle with the last possession with the way he gets to the line. But of course Fox is Mr Clutch. Good thing they both play for the Spurs

I don't think anyone would say Wednesday was the Spurs true level. Can't expect Victor to have the best game of his life every night.
Exactly my point. After the Mavs game we were not sure how close that performance was from our average. Now we have a better idea with the turd we came up with today. Our ability to play close to the Mavs performance is an important part of us getting to the playoffs.

That's Antonio Daniels. He kept talking about trying to foul out our players the whole game, even though he used to be a Spur. Sure, you work for the Pelicans, it's OK to root for them, but asking for bitch tactics like that is bullshit imho. You're a fucking tool man.
Can't believe Daniels said that . He was Timmy's best pal at one time

Castle will get there eventually. And they don't win without him hitting that 3. But damn did he fumble the ball away a ton in the last 5 min and OT. Eventually I can see it like a TP and Manu situation where Manu usually handled the ball in the last 5 min, but Parker would also get his run with it depending on matchups.

Fox should cure a lot of that. As for winning a series, that's a whole different ballgame when my expectation is a first round series against someone like Houston or Minnesota after pulling the 4 or 5 seed.
If the Spurs get either of them they can win a series tbh. They're fucked against OKC, Denver, or GS if they land any of them in the first round though.

No one thought that was how the Spurs were going to play on average. When someone posted what if this is Wemby's true level I posted then the Spurs would win 65 and the chip this year. Obviously that's not their level right now. But I disagree this performance tonight is their level either. Champ and Unc couldn't hit shit until those two threes late and more importantly Fox isn't playing yet. I'm pretty confident in them getting to 50. Fox is still the fastest man in the league and a great closer and Vic is taking a huge Year 3 jump. If this team had shooting I'd be calling a 60 win season and a WCF appearance with how good a duo Wemby + Fox is.

Anyone else think Harper should have played in OT?
He would have, but Mitch sat him because he was not playing in control late in the game. I'm all for Mitch coaching Harper hard like that, it's going to take time for him to develop but learning from these are how he develops.

Just another example IMO that we have a guy who understands what is needed to get this team and Wemby battle ready for future title contention down the road.

Kornet with 34mins today....tbh he is underpaid at 10mil/year if he is playing 30+min per game
This'll be one of the most interesting things this yr. His career high is 18.6mpg, but that's opportunity not ability.
It's looking to me like they want him out there 25ish, that makes the PF spot easier to fill b/t Barnes/Keldon/Oly + Champ and Sochan.
Loving Keldon back at the 4, 15 boards- 7 offensive in 44 minutes. Obvi very undersized/limited, but those O-rebs are gold.

Tonight, turnovers were almost our undoing. Also, our FT shooting is pitiful.

The officiating so far this season is pure trash. Wemby was living in the paint, yet got minimal FT attempts. Meanwhile, Zion was a bull in a china shop and allowed to shoot tons of FTs.

We won a hard fought game, with our franchise trapped on the bench and Castle building a new arena with his FTs.

GO SPURS GO
Watching Zion and Poole trying to rape us is pure disgust..
