Game Thread Playoffs Round 2, Game 1: Spurs vs Timberwolves (0-0) (Mon 05/04/2026) [8:30 CDT]

Doshunmu will come next game as well.

At this point except Donte, they were basically coming back to full strength….

I think people overestimate Donte in the sense that he was not a great slasher like Ayo is and not even as good as Shannon is. They might be better off without Donte in this series since he would have taken minutes away from a guy like Shannon.

But will he though? Wemby came in the league saying he will play his style and no one will put him in a box. A lot of us heard him but we keep pushing it off hoping he'll play the style we want him to play. At some point we have to take his word at face value.
He can continue to do the things he does, and he needs to mix it in with other stuff in order to have go to moves and be an elite player. If he doesn't plan on being one of the best players in NBA history then he can continue doing what he's doing, but eventually he has to evolve and develop more moves and be able to create more offense for himself when the defenses get tight and focus on him and denying him the ball.
I am not saying he's going to turn into a purely low post player and to forget everything else, but he needs to have much more low post moves and post ups in his arsenal. Even the midrange game ala Duncan he needs to use more of that in games I feel.
This kind of development is much needed for his offensive progression, turning him into an elite offensive weapon that can play in the half court without relying only on lobs and dribble drives and threes.

They are just stacked. Donte makes hustle play, can knock down clutch 3, basically an all rounder. He is a consistent contributor and starter caliber player.

I just smashed my TV in front of 30 guests at my party because of the game. My wife just took our crying kids and said they’re all spending the week at a hotel. This team has ruined my life and my party. I can’t handle this anymore. Goodbye Spurs. I am no longer a fan.
Is that for real man? I know the loss was a bad one, but man, hopefully you were just joking.

We don't need anyone new to do this, we need Wemby to learn to post up way more often and learn to get decent midrange/paint shots for himself.
I agree.

Also, I'm not a fan of Durant at all, but people can't say that he couldn't have taught Victor to take more efficient shots instead of retarded threes when he's bricking them all. When it was rumoured Durant wanted to go to the Spurs, I thought it would be great for Victor to learn from him (that was the only reason I was interested in Durant). He could have learned to be more efficient from him on when and where to take certain shots, what spots he can get to on the floor to take those shots etc. If Victor insists on playing like a taller Durant, then actually learning from him could have been a good thing. It's obvious Victor doesn't want to go down on the low post.

His attitude kind of reminds me of Rasheed Wallace in regard to banging on the low block. Rasheed was insanely talented (more talented than Tim even), but quite often he settled for jump shots instead of going down low to score. And Rasheed did have the game to play on the low block a lot more, he just didn't want to and chose not to. He ended up with one Championship (should have had more). Maybe that's how Victor will end up if he doesn't get his ass down on low the block, or at least do a lot more work inside the three point line. He can at the very least work on a hook shot or some sort of close range jump shot. Doesn't always have to get to the cup and dunk it, just has to play down low more. He can play make from there and pass the ball out to open teammates too.

The Wolves willing to be relentless in going to the rim is a problem too, they are gobbling up offensive rebounds as once wemby commits we have no one to crash the boards. Champs was great in the final minutes for that.

Game 2 is our Game 7 now, but we can do this

It’s a years-old copypasta lol 😛

in 1999, we had to beat Portland and Minnesota in the playoffs, we're just doing it in a different order this year. We also lost the first game to Minnesota in those playoffs. Unfortunately, that has zero relevance now, but it really sounds good.

Kornet looking borderline unplayable is very concerning tbh. We already need to find a new backup C for next season
Spurs I felt tried to reinvent the wheel by not providing enough size next to Victor. Luke is still a solid backup but this may not be the series for him. During the championship years I remember the Spurs always had two centers, and backup PF to play along side Duncan. '99 it was Robinson-Perdue-Kersey-Rose, '03 Robinson-Willis-Rose-Ferry, '05 Nazr-Rasho-Horry, '07 Oberto-Francisco-Horry-Bonner, '14 Splitter-Baynes-Diaw-Bonner-Ayres. This year they only have Kornet but no other bigs whether it's PF or Center to play alongside Victor.

The game may have changed but the other teams remaining in the playoffs have more size than the Spurs from what I have seen.

You never know maybe it can work out superstition wise for the Spurs like it did for the Pistons against the Magic. In '03 they were down 3-1 to the Pistons and then they were down again this year 3-1 and came back like they did in '03 to win the series lol.

Offcourse size is a problem, athletism and lenght on the frontcourt... that's why CB would have been very helpful.

It's not about having a 7 footer or something like that but you need to have options on the frontcourt not just a bunch of 3-4.
Kornet is fine as a back up C but Spurs needs at least one more PF-C on the roster.
Still we could have win this game and i hope Fox will bounce back with a big game2.

Mitch needs to start defending castle…castle was really abused by the refs tbf…

Mitch cannot be silent and needs to submit videos of mcdaniels and other minny players getting away with worse fouls than castle and even get t’d up if necessary

Also hate that we showed urgency late the last few mins of the game.Like all of sudden the game about to end,Then we
decide to have some intensity.

Agreed he has to bring attention to how Castle is getting the short end of the stick from the refs. I feel that's part of his job as coach is to lobby and speak up for his players. He hasn't been doing this so far in the playoffs.

It's already been mentioned, but for whatever stupid reason, the Spurs won't do it at all. They didn't do it in the Pop days and it seems they won't do it now. Mitch has to step up and say something or do something in the games. Go off his tree at the refs. Just speak up. At least show your team/player that you care.

Mitch clearly failing to understand the impact of Julian/Vasell in these games and not using to their full potential.

We dont have any good rebounders on Defense except Vic. Its just Julian and Vasell are best rebounders on D next to Vic

On O, Vic never tries for offensive rebounds.

What a waste Fox is if he is not scoring. TO’s all over the field.. He had game high 6 TO’s. Cant grab a simple rebound…. cant assist.

Ohh man.

Championships are supposed to be hard, everybody take a beat tbh. :st-lol:
Not for teams like the Thunder. Ag hammy falling off the bone and Hali’s game 7 Achilles are 99% why they have the ring that’s given them the even more of a golden whistle (no idea what that team/city has done to deserve it in the first place) and a high chance of repeating this year

Feel like spurs are ALWAYS getting fucked with

Going to be a tough series. Their size and physicality has been a problem all season. I think Spurs really struggle when it comes to that. Like many have said CB will help some. Twolves have all the confidence in the world right now beating a good Denver team shorthanded and stealing home court. Spurs need to come out aggressive and win game 2 convincingly to shake some of that confidence. They need to constantly attack the basket like the wolves did to try to tire out Gorbert and that interior defense. I don't think some of our key players will have a poor offensive night again. Being how poorly some of the Spurs played the game was still there for the taking.

Pop at least got technical when the officiating got out of control when it came to the refs. I don't see Mitch even doing that.

Thunder were in the exact same position twice last year . I need you especially to go out and touch some grass or smoke some tbh.
:st-lol:

I don't understand how Castle gets such a bad whistle. He got pushed in the back and called for a foul. And the one that fouled him out there seemed to be very minimal contact, if any at all.
