Game Thread Playoffs Round 2, Game 1: Spurs vs Timberwolves (0-0) (Mon 05/04/2026) [8:30 CDT]

This series is likely going 6 or 7. Minnesota is good and more importantly, they're just a bad matchup for us. They're a veteran, battle-tested team with lots of size and physicality, a superstar guard, and they have a PF that we can't match up with defensively. All the same reasons we struggle with the Knicks. We also have a Rookie HC. There will be growing pains like we saw last night. Maybe we win it in the end, maybe we don't. Either way, it's not supposed to be easy. It'll be hard. Hold onto your butts gentlemen. We're just getting started tbh.

Right after Edwards took him the hoop twice? Poor timing on his part.
Edwards was talking shit to him from the beginning. He had to stand up to him even if Edwards scored on him. If you continue to be passive when people talk shit to you it just emboldens them more.

My thoughts exactly.

Did Champ get a look? Yes.

But it was a rushed shot off a broken possession where he was probably wondering wtf am I shooting this? And we didnt need a three.

You’ve got the tallest guy in the damn building, draw up something for him
we were able to get off a shot because the Wolves werent set. they didnt have Gobert in the game, meaning help defenders had to respect Harper with the ball in his hands, which freed up Champ for a great look

what i will say is, harper got the rebound with about 7 seconds left, and it makes sense to try to push for a transition look. but then harper gave it to wemby who was stationary, and we didnt have forward momentum... that would have been a fine time to call a timeout. them wemby passed it back to harper who didnt exactly have a head of steam, and then only had about 4.5 seconds left.

still, the wolves not being setup or being able to bring gobert in is part of why we still got a good look anyway. i think the immediate decision to not call a TO was fine, though once harper passed it to wemby early, i think you could say that would have justified a change in plans. but them why force an ATO play with gobert back in the game?

It’s all part of the process. I don’t know about the rest of the board but I’m having fun watching this all play out. This is a young team learning how to win in real time.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a team with a core full of playoff neophytes come into their first ever postseason as one of the championship favorites. Normally younger teams start off the first few postseasons as lower seeds losing to higher seeded and more experienced perineal contenders. And that’s how they gain the postseason experience to win later on. These Spurs aren’t taking that same path.

Saw two this morning that were clearly goal tends. One that was an obvious foul, and another that was just a missed dunk.
Which still does not make up for all the blocks Wemby has been shorted in other games previously.

Let’s keep this in perspective, we played bad and Wolves played good and then won by two barely. The game was a coin flip. We play better this is ours, despite the bad matchups and all the rest.

man we are getting clowned on twitter rn lol....Fucking spurs better fucking rebound and show sum heart next game.Especially fox
Twitter is just continuing proof of how many idiots there are out there. this Spurs roster is still under construction. the wolves have been built to beat the Nuggets and OKC. the spurs didn't even expect to be at this point, this soon. it's no different than OKC, two years ago, having to go out and trade for Hartenstein, after getting pummeled by the Mavs front court.

Anyone suggesting the refs favored the Spurs in this game must be watching a different game. Castle was being fouled over and over and there were no whistles. Once he got shoved in the back and was called for a foul.

Agreed even if the Spurs lose this series there not that far off from being title contenders. They just have to get a solid PF, and another decent backup big. I would consider trading Keldon for a solid big if the Spurs end up losing this series.
