Game Thread Playoffs Round 1, Game 5: Spurs vs Blazers (3-1) (Tue 04/28/2026) [8:00 CDT]

I predicted the Spurs in five, and they dit it. Good series overall, i think this confirm that the spurs are still a good team even without Victor, but that with him playing ,we are a really hard team to beat

Now the wait for round 2.

When is the earliest it could start? If Minnesota wins tomorrow, would R2G1 be on Saturday?

Think might be impacted by whether Lakers close out that ASS team they’re playing tonight.

What a weird series. Took the term game of runs to an extreme. Often felt closer or more tenuous in game than the 12.4 point differential the Spurs won it by in 5, yet it also seems like they'd have probably swept and won by closer to 15 if Wembanyama didn't miss a game and a half plus.

also, composite series stats:

Champ series 3PM: 13-21, 62%, wow

Leaking/advertising that your open position will be the lowest paid in the league is an absolute big brain move tbh
Yes it's not especially a bright way to tip your hand. "Come here and widely be known as the worst paid coach in the NBA!' I guess there is a high school coach in Portland looking for his number. It might get a few coaches to buy the guy a dinner now and then. He's got the same initials as Carter Bryant. CB for Cheap Bastard.

I wish Tiago well. Portland have some interesting decisions ahead.

- PG situation. Dame will supposedly be ready to go in training camp. Scoot has shown enough to be a starter.
They absolutely can’t co-exist in the backcourt at the same time though.

- Shaedon Sharpe is really talented but seems to be showing that lack of real game detail and temperance for reliability.

- Clingon is a solid big man but easily exploitable with 5 out spacing.

- Deni has highly desirable skill ( FTA and physicality) but depends too much on a whistle to be truly effective in the end game without a go to move.

I would honestly be looking to move on from a few of these guys or they could be like the late 2010 Spurs in Playoff Play-in chips.

1) Strip the roster down to the salary floor
2) Hire the cheapest coaching staff possible
3) Cut all other expenses to the bone
4) Sell all second round picks
5) Tank hard for a few years
6) Gain high draft picks to raise franchise value
7) Roll in that sweet double expansion fee money in 2029
8) Sell the team for maximum annualized ROI

Step 6 is gonna get nuked by the new lottery flattening but the rest very well could be his playbook

yep. really cool to see the lights werent too bright for him. stood out yesterday, obviously.
Agreed. I was impressed. Teams will try to gameplan him even more now. But what can they do? Any focus to the perimeter opens up lanes/paint so pick your poison. Champ hitting 62% on volume in round 1 forces defenses to honor him. It adds such a dimension to the offense.
