News Official 2025-2026 Buyout Thread

When demar was here he was very coachable. Had great relationship with Pop and surprised pop with his abilities to distribute the ball. After being on such a poor team, he may be ready to do anything to be on a contender
Watched a pod with DD,and Pop wasn’t surprised, he was the instigator. He told Demar “you are my PG”.

I think culturally, he’s a fit, I’m just not sure his game scales down. If it doesn’t then he’s not a fit at all.

I feel like Golden State would be a good place for DeRozan, since they actually need what he provides. Not only do the Spurs not need it, but they can't even use it unless at least one of their guards get injured. In a hypothetical world where the Spurs had traded for a wing instead of Fox (but still managed to get the second-overall pick), then it would be nice to have a vet ball-handler/penetrator down the stretch of the season to supposed Castle and Harper. But now he's very duplicative with the other guards, and is the worst of the bunch.

He would also be a major liability as a defender. Easily among the worst defenders in the league.

Middleton is completely washed. He’s not capable of guarding ANYONE. The Spurs need an enforcer, not another washed up vet.

Spurs need multiple things they're not going to get in the buyout market, but they sure as hell can use someone who has shown more cold blood in closing playoff games than anyone on the Spurs roster. Even in 5/10 minutes as a spot up shooter, when other shooters go cold and stakes are high, he's worth a chance. Certainly no one he'd replace is worth keeping.

in no way shape or form does DeRozan come willingly to San Antonio. He never wanted to be here and wants to stay in Cali. He also wouldn't make any sense on this roster. Would be pretty funny if he joined the Lakers.

Not expecting him to do much on the court, but Middletons experience is worth something.

And who knows...in about two of a million universes, I could see him pulling a Steve Kerr vs Mavs game.

Unfortunately, Middleton is not that player anymore. If the Spurs need to rely on a severely washed up player that’s shooting 33% from three in the playoffs, they might as well not even play the games. He’s not a shooter. He’s not a defender. He’s not useful anymore.

I don't want 2021 Middleton, I want someone who can hit spot up 3s in key moments of playoff games, and won't clank 2 free throws in the final seconds of a game. He can still do that, better than Biyombo, Olynyk or Waters can at least.

The Spurs don't need to "rely" on him to do anything in this hypothetical. He is simply good insurance to have - a playoff vet with championship experience and huge playoff games under his belt who can help keep our guys steady if needed. No one on the buyout market is going to be relied on for anything other than roster depth

You just described Harrison Barnes.

Barnes shouldn't be the only one though. We obviously don't NEED Middleton but he would be nice to have on the bench if possible. Idk why some are some are so adverse to it. Not like we can't make room for him and he won't cost much

Unless a surprise buyout happens for a mobile PF like Boris Diaw (although Diaw release wasn't a surprise) doesn't hurt to have a veteran shooter off the bench that was part of a championship team.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to grab another shooter to fill in for barnes if he goes cold under the bright lights again. Middleton is a known quantity and I think he still has juice left.

If Spurs want a great shooter with playoffs experience, there is Eric Gordon. He is likely done and will do very little else but he sure can shoot.

Register me for rather having Georges Niang than Middleton.

FYI, I believe DeRozan makes too much money to sign with the GSW if he were bought out (for those suggesting it)
