Yeah I'm not necessarily "offended" by the whole Magic City thing, it just seems like an actually insane thing to celebrate at a sporting event :st-lol: Would be like if Denver had a game night dedicated to some famous weed dispensary or something.

Borderline shocked that a marketing team for a professional sporting franchise would come up with the idea and get it approved, but I'm not going to sit here and act like it's some horrible atrocity. Just very bizarre and in poor taste IMO.

And especially during Women's History Month

His rim protection has been mediocre lately (total eye test). It’s almost like the other teams had realized that they can’t score around the basket with wemby on the flow so let’s scout how we can score around the basket with korndog on the floor as that is the only available window to do so.
totally agree. it's blatant. As soon as wemby gets to the bench, the opposite players immediatly begin to attack the rim like if Kornet was a bad defender.

it's like a relief for them to even be able to try to get to the rim without Wemby patrolling in the paint.

it reminds me a little bit of Matt Bonner. Well, Bonner was actually a bad rim protector but he was a decent one on one defender, much better than his reputation. But for whatever reason, the opponent always seemed hyped to attack him relentlessly.

i guess that in the long term, that's not a problem for us since Kornet is a very good defender, even a good rim protector. And maybe it's just the visual impression coming from the difference in behaviour of the opponents with Wemby out there, when they don't even dare to challenge him.

I feel like his regression has gone a bit under the radar the past few weeks..He might be banged up a little as he's not playing with the same vigor of early season..
Barnes and Keldon being the forward pairing off the bench is not really ideal defensively

I thought it was kind of strange too, but apparently this Magic City thing has more to do with its influence on hip hop from ATL? At least that's what I read somewhere... in the end it all seems pretty weird. I can't imagine having an 11 year old daughter who is a Hawks fan asking me what this Magic City night is all about... (my daughters give zero shits about basketball... so I can't imagine even having a daughter who cares about it at all lol)

Yeah, again I've never been to Atlanta so maybe I'm missing something culturally significant inherent to the area. But apparently it's part of some cross promotion thing by the Hawks' owner's wife who did a documentary on it.

Still freaking weird. And before the whataboutism arguments come rolling in about gambling and alcohol sponsors at NBA games, it's just not the same tbh :st-lol:

The whataboutism arguments are weird... because it relies on this flawed premise that to be against one means you are for the others... it's entirely possible for someone to be against them all! And, like you say... they aren't apples to apples.

I had a whole longer response written out but I realized I'm bordering on violating our own rules about politics and staying on topic... so... I'll just leave it at that!

That's well said.....I don't think anyone likes the promotion of gambling either, other than those who stand to make money off of it. Having a night celebrating a scrip club is definitely weird.

Plastering gambling ads on jerseys, courts, billboards, etc are 10x as worst as Magic City night in my opinion. It's not like strippers will be there performing. If we're being honest, have you all seen cheerleaders and what they wear on court performing in front of small kids? Some of the moves are provocative and yet the crowd cheers. But God forbid we call it Magic City night and now it's about morals lol. So laughable.

If Luke is concerned about women safety, I would've loved for him to make a statement about the NBA execs caught up in the Epstein files and how the NBA isn't making any mentions of it. These are connections made AFTER his first convictions.

Well the league has endorsed gambling so I guess let’s just get rid of all standards and promote everything (y) Maybe we can have OxyContin sponsor one night and hand out free samples!

Just mind-boggling to me that people are actually arguing this stuff. “Well since we’re already allowing alcohol at games, why not just have an entire night devoted to promoting a strip club?”…I mean what an insane leap :st-lol: I thought “two wrongs don’t make a right” was the oldest cliche in the book but apparently some people need to hear it.

Last post I’ll make about this but just felt like I was in bizarro world reading some of the think pieces on Twitter about this.

The oldest cliche in the book is no match for the oldest profession.

Atlanta hip-hop? Geez this is even worse than I thought

ATL seems to have, dare I say, historical strip clubs. Goldie's? Or maybe that was the stripper's name? Regardless, I think even comic books have been written about her. But yeah, the promotion is weird.

I remember Ewing got in a scandal at the gold club or something. Was that in Atlanta?

Yeah it was a club that was connected to the Gambino crime family in Atlanta. He and John Starks and a few others testified in the trial against the owner

I have no dog in this fight but I'm waiting patiently for the "Muh chicken wings" responses from the defenders of this promotion.

Big problem if is this guy is all of sudden Zach Collins 2.0..Not sure what's going on with him: laboring, no lift, smoking lay-up and putbacks...

I mentioned it early on, I wasn't sure what to expect when Luke hasn't played big minutes in his career. I wanted another backup center via the draft and I was worried about how Luke would go with more minutes and a bigger role than he had with any of his other teams. I loved his play at the start of the season, but he's not been as good lately. When he's at his best, he's very good, but can he keep it up and do it in the playoffs. I hope he can. Maybe he needs a bit of a rest. Maybe Mason Plumlee can get some minutes and give him a rest to possibly reenergize him.
