Yeah I'm not necessarily "offended" by the whole Magic City thing, it just seems like an actually insane thing to celebrate at a sporting event :st-lol: Would be like if Denver had a game night dedicated to some famous weed dispensary or something.

Borderline shocked that a marketing team for a professional sporting franchise would come up with the idea and get it approved, but I'm not going to sit here and act like it's some horrible atrocity. Just very bizarre and in poor taste IMO.

And especially during Women's History Month

His rim protection has been mediocre lately (total eye test). It’s almost like the other teams had realized that they can’t score around the basket with wemby on the flow so let’s scout how we can score around the basket with korndog on the floor as that is the only available window to do so.
totally agree. it's blatant. As soon as wemby gets to the bench, the opposite players immediatly begin to attack the rim like if Kornet was a bad defender.

it's like a relief for them to even be able to try to get to the rim without Wemby patrolling in the paint.

it reminds me a little bit of Matt Bonner. Well, Bonner was actually a bad rim protector but he was a decent one on one defender, much better than his reputation. But for whatever reason, the opponent always seemed hyped to attack him relentlessly.

i guess that in the long term, that's not a problem for us since Kornet is a very good defender, even a good rim protector. And maybe it's just the visual impression coming from the difference in behaviour of the opponents with Wemby out there, when they don't even dare to challenge him.

:st-lol: am I the only one who thinks its weird they're having Magic City night against the Magic?

I feel like his regression has gone a bit under the radar the past few weeks..He might be banged up a little as he's not playing with the same vigor of early season..
Barnes and Keldon being the forward pairing off the bench is not really ideal defensively

I thought it was kind of strange too, but apparently this Magic City thing has more to do with its influence on hip hop from ATL? At least that's what I read somewhere... in the end it all seems pretty weird. I can't imagine having an 11 year old daughter who is a Hawks fan asking me what this Magic City night is all about... (my daughters give zero shits about basketball... so I can't imagine even having a daughter who cares about it at all lol)

Yeah, again I've never been to Atlanta so maybe I'm missing something culturally significant inherent to the area. But apparently it's part of some cross promotion thing by the Hawks' owner's wife who did a documentary on it.

Still freaking weird. And before the whataboutism arguments come rolling in about gambling and alcohol sponsors at NBA games, it's just not the same tbh :st-lol:

The whataboutism arguments are weird... because it relies on this flawed premise that to be against one means you are for the others... it's entirely possible for someone to be against them all! And, like you say... they aren't apples to apples.

I had a whole longer response written out but I realized I'm bordering on violating our own rules about politics and staying on topic... so... I'll just leave it at that!
